Gun barrels are a long, thin tube of metal that is used to shoot projectiles by applying pressure from the outside to the inside of the barrel. The barrel is filled with powder, shot, and other propellants. As the ammunition is fired, the gas created by burning powder pushes the bullet down the barrel. The town was first settled in 1802 by colonists from England. Laurel was once known as "The Old Lady of the Potomac." The town was renamed after General Andrew Jackson in 1868. It became an incorporated town in 1916. The town has a two-story white clapboard courthouse and three schools: Laurel High School, Laurel Middle School, and the America First Junior College for Women. There are also several businesses in the village including flowershop, hardware store, restaurant, convenience store, post office, doctor's office/clinic, religious services center and many more. Laurel is well known for its annual Cherry Blossom Festival which takes place over Labor Day Weekend in early September.

The first firearms were made from smoothbore barrels, which were used for hunting and artillery firepower. From the Middle Ages through to the early 18th century, guns were typically fired with either round or ball cannonballs. However, in 1795, a new type of cannonball was invented that was named after its inventor- Captain James Cook- called a “newtonian” bullet. It was designed as a less expensive alternative to traditional lead balls and had greater range than any other type of projectile at the time. In 1812, another new type of gun barrel was invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte called a “Rifled Barrel”. This barrel had cutouts on its surface that allowed it to be fired multiple times without having to be reloaded. This weapon became very popular during the Napoleonic Wars because it could shoot giant shot over long distances with ease.

Laurel is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. It is the seat of government for Prince George's County and was founded in 1792 by Englishman Jonathan Carroll. The town was named for General John Laurel who fought at Saratoga and Yorktown. The population was 11,914 as of the 2010 census. The first person to settle in what is now Laurel was John Carroll, an American Revolutionary War officer and member of the House of Burgesses from Anne Arundel County. In 1792, he purchased land east of present-day Laurel on which he built a house and began to cultivation his land. He also established trade with nearby Baltimore through trading posts he erected along Jack Branch Creek. By 1800, there were twelve houses in downtown Laurel and three German families lived there as well. In 1832, Congressman John Cushing moved from Frederick County to become U.S. Senator from Maryland after serving two terms as Governor of Maryland (1821-24). When Cushing left office in 1835, his successor Asa Keyes appointed him Postmaster General with the intent that Keyes would use post offices throughout America instead of just one or two in each congressional district. However, Keyes never implemented this plan because postal rates were too high relative to other services such as telegraph service or transportation mall development; thus rural areas saw little benefit from increased mail traffic while urban areas experienced higher postage rates than necessary due to Congress' decision not to fund new transportation projects following President Andrew Johnson's victory over Robert E ballots November 4th 1865 In 1872 Senator Isaac Noyes replaced Keyes and ordered all postmasters general be given control over their own districts rather than servePolitics/government
