Laurel is a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. It was founded in 1795 by James Laurel and his wife Betsy. The first gun store opened in 1802. In 1851, the town had a population of 2,500. It was incorporated as a city in 1907 and has since grown to over 10,000 residents. The earliest guns were muzzleloaders which fired musket balls with lead balls. Lead ball ammunition was not very successful so manufacturers started producing shot cartridges which used copper-jacketed bullets made from bronze or brass cased with lead or other metals. The first shotgun cartridge manufactured in Laurel was the 3" piece called "Flaming Star." In 1853, John Browning patented his new revolver which he named the Browning Rifle. This weapon fires a .22 calibre pistol cartridge called the "Gold Cup." This cartridge became very popular and many handguns were produced with this type of ammunition including revolvers such as Colt’s famous Model 40 (1911) and Smith & Wesson’s Model 686 (1913). Laurel is a town in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The population was 10,284 at the 2010 census. Laurel was founded in 1795 by General John Armstrong and is one of the oldest towns in the state. The original boundaries were based on present-day North Laurel Road and Easton Avenue. The first white settler in what is now Laurel was Captain James Best who arrived in 1795 with his family from Virginia. He built a cabin on Little Roundabout Hill (now known as Best Drive) and naming it after himself. Best's cabin served as an early meeting place for the area's pioneers. In 1825, Captain John Roanoke landed on Laurel Point near present-day White Marsh to explore the Chesapeake Bay area before sailing back to England with his colonists. His landing marked the start of what would become Anne Arundel County and much of modern day Laurel was developed as part of this expansion including Roanoke Landing Park today. In 1828, President James Kossuth appointed Colonel Isaac Nourse commander of Ulysses S Grant's forces during their invasion of Mexico City and while at Roanoke Landing he spied an unusual looking ship off shore which became known as "Nourse's Cat." After purchasing her for $846 USN he sailed her back to America where he used her as his personal flagship during the Mexican–American War fought between America and Mexico over control of Texas). She returned to service during World War II when she served as USS West Liberty (LHD 4) afloat convoy escort unit until her loss due to enemy action in Gulf Stream on 12 October 1944 . On 15 May 1949, Congress passed Act No 3444 creating Laurel Municipal Corporation which would manage all aspects local government within Anne Arundel County including budgeting, zoning, land use regulation, public works management and more under one roof for greater efficiency and effectiveness. On 1 July 1951 – less than two years after its inception – Park Service purchased acres bordering east side of Olde Towne Club for future development into Laurel National Forest Preserve making it official that Laurel had been added to the National Forest System! In 1969 construction began on nearby Friendship Heights housing developments which continue up through this date; these have since been replaced by new homes Oriole Hills/Olympia Crossing /Wellesley Village communities which are located just east of I-495 exit 2647A & 2729A Interstate Highway 95 junction

It also helped improve fire rates on artillery units during World War I when shellfire became essential for victory. In 1903, America’s first real handgun was invented- this weapon was known as the Colt revolver- this firearm revolutionized how handguns were designed and functioned throughout the world. Laurel was founded in 1795 by John Laurens and his wife, Susana. The town was named for the Laurel tree that stands outside the town's first courthouse. In 1821, it became a county seat of Talbot County. By 1861, it had become an unincorporated community within Montgomery County. In 1898, President Grover Cleveland appointed George Washington as the first United States ambassador to Lebanon and Damascus. When he resigned in 1903 due to health problems, President Theodore Roosevelt succeeded him as U.S Ambassador to Lebanon and Damascus. His successor in 1905-1909 was Arthur Bliss Knighan Jr., who served until World War I when he lost his life while serving as ambassador to Turkey. In 1916, Congressman James Kapp introduced a bill which would rename Laurel "The City of Mount Vernon." However, because of lack of support from local leaders, the bill failed to gain passage in Congress. In 1935, Mayor Harry Jaffe proposed that Laurel be made into a city Limitsborough pursuant to section 2-203 of the Code of Maryland Annotated (then § 1-101). However this proposal also failed to gain passage in council despite being recommended by businessman William Fenton and developer Drury Hahnstroms campaign contribution totaling $2 million dollars
