In 1916, construction began on what would become Hyattsville High School which opened its doors November 15, 1916 as Prince George's County Technical School for Girls. Today, HyattsVILLE High School offers students a variety of programs including burglary prevention/training; environmental studies; business administration/management; criminology/crime analysis; health education/health sciences; mathematics; music theory/theory and performance art; physical education/fitness activities: winter sports (ice skaters); summer sports (baseball); dance instruction/acrobatics classes (girls); life science classes (biology); textile arts classes (women).

Hyattsville is a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 9,571 at the 2010 census. Hyattsville is located on the Potomac River and is bordered to the north by White Marsh and to the east by Upper Marlboro. To the south it borders Hyattsville proper to the west and Loudoun County, Virginia. The first inhabitants of what is now Hyattsville were Native American peoples known as "the Algonquians." They arrived in what is now Prince George's County about four hundred years ago. The area that became Hyattsville was originally part of Frederick County until 1783 when it became part of Prince George's County. In 1814, John Nicholson purchased land in what is now Hyattsville from Nicholas Goodrich for $2,000 (about $ today). He named his purchase "Nicholson's Landing." The town was founded on October 1, 1814 by Captain James Peebles with 11 families under his command as their new home. In 1840s two brothers named John Ladd and William Caldwell bought land around present day Main Street near where John Nicholson had settled in 1814 from Thomas Elder Cunningham for $10 per acre (about $ today). The Ladd-Caldwell family built many homes in this area including one still standing today on Main Street just east of Center Avenue - which they called "The Grove". A post office called Haddock was established here on December 12, 1839; hyattstown@mail.com remained until November 15th 1959 when it changed its name to Hyattsville after Major General Edwin M. McLean USMC who served as governor of Maryland during World War II In 1861 Union troops burned down three buildings in this community - one belonging to Captain Peebles and two others belonging to Colonel David Dixon – during an effort to suppress slavery within Confederate territory during the American Civil War This event has been generally considered a hate crime against free people of color across America but there are no definitive proof linking this group or any other specific individuals with this act It should be noted that these buildings were not located near any black neighborhoods or businesses at that time so much as they were near white commercial areas . colonel david dixon later served as mayor pro tem for prince grosso county from 1978-1981
