The town was first settled in 1783 by John Hyatt and his wife Susannah Gottfried as a small farming community on land owned by Colonel Nicholas Cockerell. Cockerell donated 50 acres (20 hectares) of his estate to the town in 1802, making it its official site. In the early days of the internet, there were only a few large companies that could offer high-capacity (HCC) connections. These companies typically had very large fiber optic cables running throughout their facilities and offered gigabit speeds to their customers. As technology improved, more and more businesses began to adopt HCC connections. Today, many organizations rely on HCC connections for speed and efficiency because they are much cheaper than traditional broadband services. One of the earliest high capacity conversions was made by AOL in 2002. At the time, AOL was one of the largest online providers in the world with over 230 million users. By using HCC connection, AOL was able to provide its customers with a significantly faster service than what they would have received if they had used traditional broadband services. Another company that went through a high capacity conversion was Time Warner Cable in 2006. At that time, Time Warner Cable was one of the most powerful telecommunications companies in America. With over 100 million subscribers across different networks, Time Warner Cable wanted to ensure that all of its customers received a quality experience when using HCC connections. The company started by implementing an upgraded network infrastructure which allowed them to increase their bandwidth from 10 Mbps down to 1 Gbps . This increased bandwidth allowed them to carry more traffic and offer a better experience for their customers who were using HCC connections. In addition, Time Warner Cable also invested in software which allowed them to manage their customer’s packets better so that they could get the best results from their HCC connection
