In 1849, Hyattsville merged with nearby Bowie to form what is now known as Bowie-Hyatttsville Township. The town experienced more prosperity during World War II due to its proximity to Washington D.C., which helped support wartime production needs. After the war ended in 1945, Hyattsville lost some of its economic heyday but has since regained some popularity thanks to its cultural offerings and easy access to major metropolitan areas such as Baltimore and Washington D.C..
