Ammunition history in Hyattsville, Maryland can be traced back to the early 1800s. The first arms were used by farmers and frontier people on the Hyattsville estates of Sir John Herritage and Lady Mable Simcoe. These initial firearms were muzzleloaders and muskets, which were designed for hunting small game. In 1804, Major General James H. Wilson purchased land east of present-day Hyattsville and began development of what would become known as Wilson's Ranch. This ranch was used for agricultural purposes until 1865, when it became a military post. During the American Revolution, ammunition production in Maryland increased because of the need for munitions to support the war effort. Ammunition factories were located in Annapolis and Frederickburg; however, most of this ammunition was used domestically rather than exported to Europe. During the War of 1812, Philadelphia-based manufacturer Nicholas Metzger developed a new type of gunpowder that helped make victory more likely against British forces; this new powder replaced older cannonball types with a more effective round that could penetrate armor at a distance greater than 200 yards. In 1814, Captain Elijah Fenton embarked on an archaeological expedition to find evidence of human activity in what is now southeastern Washington County; his findings included artifacts dating back to around 11000 BC! After his return from his journey, Fenton formed the nucleus of what would become today's Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History (NMNH). By 1830, there existed three large arsenals within Maryland—the Royal Arsenal at Annapolis (later renamed Fort George), Queenston Arsenal near Kingston upon Thames (now part of London), and Harpers Ferry Arsenal northwest of Westphalia (now Aberdeen). The Second Barbary War led to an increase in artillery production throughout America due to shortages caused by imported materialsvoiced by President James Kossuth who ordered all American cannons not only fire on any undefended enemy ports but also "to put into practice measures we have lately taken for building up our own navy." The demand for munitions during these wars led Baltimore manufacturer Hargrave & Noyes to produce 100 cannon balls per day during the war while Annapolis producer Nicholson & Son produced 50 rounds per day! James also married a woman named Catherine Cockerell and they had nine children: James Cockerell Sr., Annabella Cockerell Chasey, Anthony Cockerell (1775-1846), Caroline Cockerell Willoughby ( 1810-1892), Daniel cockerell (1800-1858), Harriet Beecher Stowe ( 1812-1902), Harriot Beecher Stowe Snellenbogen( 1814-1900). In 1870, when Baltimore became an independent city, Hyattsville voted for incorporation as a new town. The first post office was established at 2163 North Charles Street on October 16th of that year. On November 6th of that year residents erected a wooden frame building on lot No. 4 on High Street which served as their first courthouse until it burned down in 1903. On April 15th of 1886 voters approved annexation by Arlington Heights into Baltimore City after years of debate over whether or not to become one municipality with its own government On January 12th of 1898 citizens erected a wooden frame house on lot No. 221st Street NW which served as their second courthouse until it burned down in 1899 In 1907 the Town Council voted to rename themselves "Hyattsville" after Rear Admiral Arthur Denny who commanded US Naval Forces Mediterranean during World War I The first store opened up in this community at 901 West Main Street on October 1st 1907 – called "The Gilded Age Store". This store was later renamed The Hampden House because it housed many high profile customers such as President Woodrow Wilson and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt On November 3rd 1912 voters approved annexing Greenbelt into Baltimore City while voting against annexing HyattsVILLE which would have created another municipality with its own government

It is the oldest continuously inhabited community in Prince George's County and one of its most ethnically diverse communities. In addition to Hyattsville proper, the town includes two other neighborhoods: Laurel Hills and Northeast Hyattsville. The area that now Hyattsville was first settled by English colonists in 1683 as part of Anne Arundel County. The town was founded on May 12, 1812 by General John Smith as the landing place for troops who had been sent to help invade Baltimore during the War of 1812. The name "Hyattsville" comes from a small stream called Alleghany which ran through the town site. When Alleghany Creek became too polluted for human use, settlers began to rename it after different places in England such as Hatfield and Stamford Hill (now part of London). In 1825, Hyattsville incorporated as a borough under the jurisdiction of Prince George's County; it remained an unincorporated community until 1975 when it became part of Montgomery County. In 1974, Hyattsville again became an unincorporated community within Prince George's County when its borders were redefined following enactment of local government consolidation legislation in Maryland. During World War II, large numbers of Japanese Americans lived in what is now northeast Hyattstown Village and many people who lived there are descendents of that group. Some prominent citizens from this time include Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Mario), Toshiaki Kawamori (director and co-writer on Yasuo Takahashi's "Ponyo"), Nobuo Uematsu ( composer for "Final Fantasy"), Minoru Tanaka (directorial debut for "The Six Samurai"), Kazuo Ishiguro ("Tales From Earthsea") and Takeshi Kitamura (directorial debut for "Election."
