They named their farm "Hagersville" after Colonel James Hager, an American Revolutionary War hero. By 1830, Hagerstown had a store, schoolhouse, post office and two churches. In 1831, General David Hunter decided to move his military camp across the river to newgrounds north ofpresent-day Westminster. He ordered Major General Nicholas Gales to build him a bridge over the Potomac River so that he could get reinforcements easily to battle against Native Americans living near Fort Washington on Mount Jayneski. To finance this project, General Hunter issued 100 shares of $2 worth of stock each to twelve men who volunteered for construction work on his new bridgehead. By 1835, all but three members of the original pioneer family had died or moved away from Hagerstown due to hard times caused by disease brought over by visitors from nearbyWilliamsburg or Alexandria during that period of great growth throughout Northern Virginia associated with President Andrew Jackson's "New Federalism." But when Congress passed an act authorizing erection of public buildings in Prince George's County in 1840-41 through Act No 811 (the Townshend Bill), Colonel James Hager became Mayoralty for District 1 including all present day Westminster excepting Just Eastfield where Samuel Gregg now lives as part of that development; also included portions eastward upriver extending into Frederick County including present day Manassas Junction etc., thus completing incorporation within newly organized county which bore his name until its abolition following World War II as part of reorganization following federal re-organization under Truman Doctrine . This event marked not only incorporation but also progress towards civic organization as well as continuing economic prosperity since then despite challenges posed by changing demographics , technology & globalization
