The Gaithersburg Gun Club was formed in 1892 and its purpose was to promote gun safety. The club has a rich history that began with the founding of the Gaithersburg Rifle and Pistol Club which met at the home of Judge John Englehart. In 1896, the club purchased land on North High Street in Gaithersburg and erected a clubhouse. In 1904, the club moved to its current location on West Main Street in Gaithersburg. The club held its first meeting outside of Maryland in 1903. In 1911, the Gaithersburg Rifle and Pistol Club merged with the Montgomery County Shotgun League to create what is now known as The Gaithersburg Gun Club (GGC). As GGC grew, it became necessary to purchase additional property for shooting purposes. The new property included 10 acres located east of town on Old Northern Road. In 1916, GGC adopted a constitution which stated: “No member shall be discharged from this organization without good cause or upon an appeal from another member” In 1922, GGC acquired a shotgun range adjacent to Waterman's Pharmacy on East Market Street inGaithersburg which continues to be used today by GGC members as their firing range. On October 15th of that year, GGC hosted its first competitive match ever against neighboring Bowie Gun Clubs at Brookland Park where they won 11-3. That same year, G GC also established itself as an affiliated body with The National Rifle Association (NRA) . It reverted back to using shotguns once registration requirements were relaxed again after enactment of CSA guidelines ; however this time around no special tournaments were organized for these shotguns Today there are still some remnants left from past meetings such as photo exhibits and occasional golf tournaments
