Gun parts history in Gaithersburg, Maryland dates back to the Civil War. The town was first settled in 1792 by Welsh immigrants, and early firearm manufacturing took place here. In 1847, local gunsmiths began making rifles for the Confederate army. By 1860, G&A Guns had become one of the largest firearms dealers in the area. Many of Gaithersburg's guns were used during the American Civil War. In 1871, Gaithersburg became a city and began to import arms from Europe. Gunmakers here continued to produce rifles and shotguns until around 1920. In that year, G&A Guns merged with another local company, J & W Armoury & Pistol Shop. From then on,Gaitherburg's firearms industry would be based largely on pistols and revolvers produced at J&W Armoury & Pistol Shop until 1992 when it closed down completely due to financial difficulties. Today, many of Gaithersburg's historic buildings still stand vacant but are occasionally used as storage or office space for businesses in the community.

Gaithersburg, MD is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 26,569 at the 2010 census. Gaithersburg borders Potomac River to the north and east; Frederick County to the south; and Montgomery County to the west. The name "Gaithersburg" is derived from "Gauthierstown", which was a small settlement on the lower Patuxent River within present-day Gaithersburg Township. One of its first settlers was Elias Asbury (1752-1837), who made his home there in 1786. Another early settler was James Blair (1780-1855). He built a cabin on what is now North Bridge Road in 1814. Some time before this, he had purchased an estate called Great Falls which lay just outside present-day Gaithersburg on much of which still survives as part of today's town limits. In 18th century America, most families lived close to their farms orchards or hunting Grounds rather than traveling great distances for goods and services needed by all parts of society. This system continued into the 19th century when railroads brought new opportunities for commerce and transportation. By 1800, Gaithersburg had developed into an important stop on these development trends with its role as a commercial center and its location along Route 1A between Washington D.C., Baltimore Orioles baseball team owner John McGraw's house at Camden Yards in Baltimore City (/ Mile End Road), and Lancaster Railroad Depot just outside modern day Gaitherburg on Route 1A/Patuxent Boulevard right across from where Interstate 295 meets I-495/Capital Beltway today - all within easy driving distance of each other! It wasn't until after World War II that Gaithersburg began to experience rapid growth as American soldiers returning from war created demand for housing near military bases all over the country - including those located in nearby Frederick County! In postwar years many industryaleigh businesses such as Chevrolet dealerships quickly replaced agricultural production that had been staples of local life since colonial times such as apples, walnuts and soybeans - making Gaithersburg one of the most industrialized areas in central Maryland! As suburban sprawl grew throughout central Maryland during this same time period even more people chose to move closer to jobsites instead of taking long trips away from their homes for shopping or other reasons!! The first residents of Gaithersburg were part of the British colony of North Carolina. In 1781, General James Washington moved his troops into what is now Prince George's County to quash a revolt against British rule by some Native Americans known as the Kanawha Indians. Washington founded what is now Gaithersburg on December 12, 1781, with land donated by Major John Potts and others in response to this uprising. Washington named his community "Gaithersburg" after Colonel Arthur Gaither who had served under him during the American Revolution. In 1871, when Prince George's County became an independent county, Gaithersburg became its seat and remained so until 1954 when it was moved to Silver Spring. During that time, Gaitherburg experienced many changes including becoming an industrial center with coalmining and manufacturing operations coming to town from nearby Montgomery County and then Frederick County; however, heavy industry gradually declined over the years due to competition from newer suburbs such as Bethesda and Rockville Centre. There are two active High Schools within walking distance of each other- Stuyvesant High School which serves students fromGaithersburg proper as well as neighboring Takoma Park and Riverdale school systems; while Laurel Hill Elementary School serves students from Atlas Park (northwest corner), Bowie Heights (southwest corner), Glen Burnie (east side) and South Bowie (central area) neighbourhoods adjacent to Gahrtowne Road near Interstate 527/Upper Potomac Parkway exit 221B).
