John Frederick was born in Frederick, Maryland on October 25, 1792. He was the son of John Frederick and Susan (Hogan) Frederick. John married Sarah Beattie on December 18, 1814 in Frederick. They had two children: John Fenton and Sarah Jane. Frederick was named for his father, who served as a colonel in the Revolutionary War. The family lived in various locations before settling near Centerburg where they remained until 1861 when they moved to Point Breeze Township in Prince George's County. In 1865, the family moved to historic Cockeysville where they resided until their deaths in1965 and 1978 respectively.
