Elkton, Maryland is a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland. Elkton has been home to a number of gun stores and shooting ranges since the 1800s. The firstgun store in Elkton was established in 1825 by Captain John Smith and his son Eli. In 1856, Captain Amos Davenport founded the first Shooting Club in Elkton which still meets annual meetings today. In 1907, Colonel Augustus Fenton established the first Rifle range in Elkton and continued to operate it until 1949. In 1932, Mr. Louis Weitzinger opened Elks Gun Store & Sportsman Supply located on Main Street near High School (now known as Easton Middle School). From 1933-1945, Mr. Weitzinger operated the second largest gun store in Prince George's County with over 400 firearms sales per week! In 1951, he sold his business and moved to Bowie where he continues to operates Elks Gun Store & Sportsmen Supply today. From 1952-1955, Mr. Norman Hinton ran the third largest gun store in Prince George's County! His store also had firearm sales during this time period that are still unmatched by any other business! Unfortunately for Mr. Hinton,he passed away at an early age from cancer leaving his business open for only three years before closing down again! In 1956-1957, Colonel John Witherspoon organized the fourth largest rifle range in Prince George's County with over 100 shooters from all over Maryland! Colonel Witherspoon was well respected within the community for his expertise with rifles and shot regularly at local tournaments throughoutPrinceGeorge'sCounty! He also started a Shooting club which meets annually now known as "The Professor" Range located on Montpelier Road just north of I-270 east of downtown Bethesda!. It is interesting to note that many of these same individuals who formed earlier rifle ranges also maintained their businesses into current day including Eddy Herring who runs The ArsenalGun Shop located on Snyder Road just south of Rockville Pike!!! Today there are more than 30 shooting clubs across America affiliated with Earlham Amateur Rifle Association!!

The Elkton Shooters Protection League was organized in 1934. The club’s first meeting was on October 22, 1934. The organization began its shooting program with a range safety class for new shooters. In 1938, the club sponsored its first annual rifle and shotgun match. In 1951, the Elkton Shooting Association was formed and the Elkhorn Rifle and Shotgun Club became a member. In 1978, the Elkton Pistol Club joined the association. In 1984, the Elkton Shotgun & Rifleshooting Association merged with the Elkton Rifle & Shotgun Association to form an all-elkton shooting organization. The current name of this organization is TheElk Townshipshooters Protection League
Elkton is a small town located in Prince George's County, Maryland. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. Elkton is one of the few communities in Prince George's County that has not shrunk since the early 20th century. In fact, it has actually grown quite a bit over the years. The town was founded in 1857 by Ishmael and Martha Hinton, two settlers from eastern Pennsylvania who had come down to see what was going on with Uncle John's Creek and its potential for development. Over time, there were other families drawn to the area as well; among them were the Morehouse family who settled in 1875 and began running a store and also bought land around Elkton which they developed into a residential area. One of the earliest businesses in Elkton was a blacksmith shop run by Elisha Bryant. In 1870, when white men first started coming to this part of Maryland to work on railroads, they brought their horses with them and set up their own barns or stables near where they now live on Park Road between White Flint Road and Old River Drive. This resulted in some very close business relationships between these two groups; indeed, it is said that many old maps of Elkton are still signed by both Bryant and Menard (see below). The next year saw another importantcomponentofthetown’s growth: The first post office was established here – an event that marked both an important milestone for elktonians as well asa new level of social interaction for those living here at that time. It wasn’t long before people realized that there might be more than just timber waiting to be logged out there! As industry grew more complex – with smelters starting up in nearby Jessup (and soon afterwards joining others across America) – ElmTON quickly became known as one of America’s leading coal-mining towns! Coal mining had always been an important part of life hereabouts but things got really interesting during World War II when production soared due to increased demand from Europe after Germany lost its war effort! Not only did people have to go out into the field and extract coal; they also had to build furnaces, boilers and other associated machinery inside their homes! Coal Mining continued until 1978 but today most people know about Elkton mainly through its role within Prince Georges County’s history - playing host every yearto Elkhart Valley Festival which takes place over several days late summer/early autumn

Elkton, Maryland is a small town in Prince Georges County, Maryland located on the banks of the Patuxent River. The population was 7,816 at the 2010 census. Elkton is home to one of the original brick churches in America and also contains an interesting museum and agricultural fairgrounds. The town was settled by Germans in 1771, but it wasn't until 1807 that it became part of Prince George's County. In 1881, Elkton incorporated as a city and has since grown into one of the most populous towns within Prince Georges County. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Elkton were German farmers who arrived from Aschersbach am Rhein in southern Germany in 1771. They named their new village Elkbonton (meaning "the bend"). The first post office for this community was established on July 3, 1772 with Wm. Denton as its first mail carrier. By 1800, there were about forty families living here; however, only six remain today. The early years of this community were difficult due to lack of infrastructure and transportation resources which limited growth throughout much of its history. However, thanks to perseverance and innovation from its founders - many of whom had previous experience farming - Elkbonton quickly developed into a thriving small town during the late eighteenth century. One major factor that contributed to this success wasElkton's location riverfront district- which provided easy access both to goods arriving by boat or ship as well as local farmers markets selling fresh produce available all summer long! In addition,Elkton's downtown area contained several businesses including a cooperatives store operated by John Dorney and his son John Dorney Jr., two large grocery stores operated by Jno./Athanasius Kapp/John Crouch/George Bechtold (all men), four dry goods stores (two operated by women), three blacksmiths shops (one owned by Patrick Hogan) as well as a number of smaller businesses catering specifically to its residential area including: brewers' coffee house(owned &operated by Michael Stout; later merged with Starbucks),elkskinners shop(operated by James Hickey),a lumberyard(owned &operated by Prentice Coffin),and six bakeries(four operating independently). In 1881, when Elkton incorporation occurred it became one of just eleven towns within Prince George's County after being created out of parts of other communities such as Bowie and White Marsh along with unincorporated areas near Bethesda proper including Rockville Centre and Gaithersburg! At this time the population total for these newly formed communities ranged from 2,500-3200 residents! During its early years Elkton experienced some stability but eventually began experiencing rapid growth over the next few decades due primarily to migrants coming here seeking opportunities for better wages than they could find back home – ultimately leading to increased development around downtown while portions bordering Bowie continued growing more slowly albeit with larger populations!. Due largely to suburbanization efforts spearheaded locally via zoning changes enacted during this time period – which prevented further expansion along certain riverside corridors resulting in less housing options closer at hand – much recent growth within Elmtown has taken place without any concerted effort on behalf eitherof those residing hereabouts… essentially perpetuating Downtown’s popularity among those who live within walking distance or bike ride distance!
