Elkton is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 5,912 at the 2010 census. Elkton is located on the western edge of the University of Mary Washington campus. The first Europeans to visit what is now Elkton were French traders in 1636. Spanish traders also visited the area during this time and made coffee beans from the trees there. In 1724, John Smith surveyed and named this area "Elkton" after his friend and business partner Nicholas Elkinton of London. In 1827, General James K. Polk mapped these areas as part of a survey for the US Department of War that included all of Maryland and parts of Delaware and Pennsylvania. He named these possessions "Maryland Heights", becoming one of only three US states to have its name changed twice within its borders - another instance where geography took precedence over history! From 1881 until 1952, Elkton was known as "Downtown". After being moved from its original site near Westfield Road on Catoctin Creek to become an inner-city neighborhood in 1951, Downtown became known as " Elkin". In 1984, when Prince George's County became an independent municipality with its own government entities (including a downtown), Downtown reverted back to its old name - but with an extra "-town" suffix! Although it has been mentioned in passing by historians since before Confederation (and even shown on maps dating back to 1636), it wasn't until 1883 that residents started building their homes hereabouts – at least not specifically around Catoctin Creek! Today's neighborhoods began forming around World War II veteran housing developments such as Marshall Field’s “Military Parkways” which stretched from Jeannette Road eastward along MD 95 south into Forest Park; the creek formed no intervening barriers between these developments [today’s]… Although many homes were built post-WWII outside ofTown Center Historic District boundaries; they are still considered part of Downtown because they are located within walkable distance both inside or outside Town Center Historic District boundaries…. It should be noted that while most people refer to Elkton simply as "Elkton", there are several streets/neighborhoods within Elkin called Old Main Street (now Market Hill Drive), Kingwood Avenue (now Elmira Boulevard), Highland Avenue (now Springdale Boulevard) etc., just so you know which streets/neighbors you're addressing when speaking about 'elkton'.

Elkton is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. It was incorporated as a town on November 3, 1884. Elkton is located near Washington National Airport and just east of Route 441 which connects it to Hyattsville and Bethesda. The first people to live in what is now Elkton were the Potters who built their home on the west side of High Street in 1881. In 1886, a group of people from Northumberland County founded Elkton with the idea of creating an agricultural community around their new schoolhouse. In 1890, two men by the name of Morse and Stephenson purchased land northeast of town and began to build a house there known as "Morse Manor". They continued to reside there until 1912 when they sold their holdings and moved to Morningside Heights in Brooklyn Township, Pennsylvania. A post office called Elkton was established in 1903, but no mail ever arrived here because it was too far from Washington National Airport for anyone to bring letters back then! On October 15th, 1934 (just after President Franklin D. Roosevelt had been elected), Elmira resident Mrs. Clara Barton delivered her famous speech During her address she mentioned that if America could be categorized into four typesOf People- Farmers & Fishers, Men & Women working together For The common good- Then America needed Shelf Area for more than one type Of Person To live happily ever after! That's When I knew we had something special here! After that night things changed And Elmira became known as "The City Of Opportunity"
