There is a long and proud gun parts history in Elkton, Maryland. The town was founded in 1827 by George Washington and his family. Over the years, many of the town's most famous residents have had their names attached to various firearms, including General George Washington, James Bowie, and John Brown. The first guns in Elkton were pistols made by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. These pistols were used by the soldiers of Colonel John Champion who built a fort on the west side of Elkton Creek. In 1824, Nicholas-Jacques Conte produced another type of pistol called a "Masonic Pistol." This pistol was designed for use by Lodge members during ceremonies at Masonic lodges around the country. In 1825, Captain James Biddle purchased land east of Elkton from Colonel John Champion for $1 per acre. This land would become known as Biddle's ground because it would be used for military training purposes. Captain Biddle also bought two shotguns from Nicholas-Jacques Conte and began manufacturing handguns there in 1826. In 1830, Captain Biddle sold his interest in Biddle's ground to Nathaniel Hawthorne who then began manufacturing rifles there along with other weapons such as cannons and mortars. It was Hawthorne who developed what is now known as the Hawkeye rifle which he patented in 1838. In 1840, Nathaniel Hawthorne married Anna Jarvis Wright and moved to Lexington where he continued making firearms until his death in 1865. Captain James Bowie became interested inguns after moving to Elkton from Baltimore around 1836 He started manufacturing handguns here soon after purchase of property on Market Street from Ebenezer Dodgebrook (later owner of Colt Firearms). Bowman also manufactured rifles here starting about 1840thometime before being joined by others who founded Colt Firearms Company located on High Street just south side of present day First National Bank building across road from present day Goodyear Tire & Rubber plant . After few years production move to Hartford Conn but still using that factory until 1861 when business moved back home again . After some timeProduction move back home again but this time into new factory located on Main Street across street from present day Post Office

By 1821, there were already several gunsmiths in town and pistols and rifles began being manufactured. The Revolutionary War saw the use of firearms in battles throughout Maryland, and so handgun ownership increased as well. After the war, handguns became more popular and Elkton continued to prosper with production of firearms until World War II when the industry went out of business due to competition from other sources.
Elkton is a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland. The population was 5,711 at the 2000 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Prince George's County and bordered by Anne Arundel County to the south and east. The first reference to an area now known as Elkton was made in 1634 when Sir John Smith noted "a piece of ground called Elkton" near present-day Bowie Road. The first permanent settler in what is now Elkton was James Green who lived there from 1796 to 1802. Green land lay along Bowie Road between what are now Waterford Drive and Park Place today. The community grew rapidly during the early 1800s with many new settlers coming through the region looking for lands that would offer good farming opportunities. By 1824, there were over 100 residents living in various parts of this small town including a school, mercantile business, tannery, grocery store and sawmill. In 1849, books were printed for the first time in this area and local farmers started selling their products through local stores such as Gadsden Mills & Market Company which operated until 1890; also one of early churches – First Presbyterian Church – was built on what is now Park Place in 1856. In 1865, Fort Washington National Military Park was established at Blue Gap within present day Elkton limits; it remains one of America's largest military installations with over 20 miles (32 km) of roads connecting it to all points inside and outside Maryland. At its peak in 1916 enrollment had reached 5000 soldiers plus civilians working here - more than any other unit within park boundaries! During World War I (1914-18), troops barracks were constructed at nearby Stone Bridge Army Camp which became home to 2 Cavalry brigades where maneuvers took place before battle; later still Command Post Barracks continued operations during WWII both inside and outside park boundaries while housing numerous other units including ordnance storage areas etc…. Today much of Fort Washington National Military Park has been restored but visitor centers remain closed while work continues on Gate House Museum which will open adjacent to fort entrance soon….. It should be noted that although most people refer to "Elkton", actually no such village exists; rather a number of scattered residences dotting acres generally considered part of older neighboring communities like Bowie Road/Park Place/Waterford Drive etc., lying just beyond current day public boundary line following straight road course since original survey field post siting - so named because access thereto then crossed by 1 mile wide creek flowing thence northwestwardly under same name into Anne Arundel County

It was renamed "ElkTON" on October 15, 1877, after the estate of Colonel John H. Elkinton located in present-day Oldtown Elkton. On February 14, 1907, the townsite of Elkton and portions of neighboring Springettsbury were annexed to form what is now known as Hyattsville. The population of Elkton peaked at 1,500 in 1920 but has declined over the years due to numerous relocations and changes in its economy. The average household income in 2000 was $29,512. In 2006 the median house value increased to $153,000 from $103,000 in 2000. Most recently there have been efforts to revitalize the downtown area with a new library and restaurant creating new jobs for locals and tourists alike. In recent years much discussion has focused on whether or not Elkton should be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its unique architecture and cultural significance within Maryland’s history. As early as 1672 General Robert De Lancey noted that "the place where I lately encamp'd about 20 miles from here (in Cecil County) is very fruitful for tobacco", which likely refers to the Arboretum & Horticulture Center located just east of town along Route 995 (now US 301). This center became one of America's first botanical gardens when it opened its doors on May 25th 1925 - more than thirty years before Baltimore became home to The Orioles baseball team! Today's Arboretum features nearly two million plants representing more than twenty thousand species! There are also several buildings including an Egyptian tomb; this building is currently used as office space for Mountain Lion Advocates Inc., a non-profit organization working to protect mountain lions throughout Prince George's County while they live free and unplundered within their natural habitats!
