Easton is a small town in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The population was 5,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–Baltimore–Washington Metropolitan Area. Easton is located on the southern edge of Montgomery County and bordered by Howard County to the east and west. The first inhabitants of what is now Easton were Native Americans who lived in caves near where the community now stands. The area that would become Easton was settled by European colonists in 1795 when they arrived from Pennsylvania as part of a land grant to General George Washington. The town was named for Nicholas-Jacques Eastony, an officer in King George II's army who had fought with Washington during the French and Indian War. Over time this residential area grew increasingly commercialized with numerous stores opening up along Eustace Road running parallel to Friendship Heights Boulevard across Prince Georges Drive bisecting Friendship Heights , finally developing into one large mall featuring over two dozen stores along Eustace Road almostto Downtown Washington DSCTH

The town had a population of about 2,500 by 1880. In 1886, Easton joined the newly created Washington County and became one of its five towns. In 1916, Easton voters passed a referendum creating a city government which would be headed by an elected mayor and council. The city's first Mayor was John H. Costello and it had a population of just over 100 residents in 1916. However, the city never took off and eventually dissolved in 1971 without any mayoral or council representation.
