Easton is a town in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the five towns in Montgomery County and has only 2 miles (3 km) of main street. However, Easton's small size may be its biggest asset; it has a rich history that can be seen in its architecture and businesses. The first permanent settler in what is now Easton was Abraham Lincoln who arrived there on May 24, 1785 with his family from Illinois. In 1814, John Nicholson founded a small trading post near present-day intersection of Clarksville Pike and Army Road to serve settlers coming west from Baltimore via Pennsylvania Railroad route 10. Nicholson’s post was abandoned by 1820 because of overpopulation by pioneer farmers and traders seeking richer land along the Susquehanna River Valley. In 1838, Isaac Brock purchased part of present-day Easton from Nicholson for $2 per acre (0.70 €/kg). Brock had come to develop this area as an agricultural center for surrounding areas including Fredericktown and Middletown due to new railroad development going eastward fromBaltimore via Delaware Avenue into central Maryland. Easton's nameakes came about when local resident John Ewing named one of his two children "Easton" after nearby White Marsh Creek which he thought would make easy access to goods brought downriver by boatloads but never did because then no steamboats could navigate the creek during high water times which made running the creek difficult for early pioneers. By 1840 most all residents living within 0 2 miles (0 3 km) of town were either British or Irish Catholics as Englands Second Opium War hysteria increased immigration rates to America across both hemispheres especially among those rich enough to purchase land in what became known as " culturally pluralistic America". On November 15th 1861 while units loyal to Confederate General Robert Ewell were marching through town they encountered Union forces led by Major General James Longstreet who ordered them disbanded until further notice claiming that under Federal law all men must answer Johnston's call regardless of their allegiance(!) Although some menetsyrebels managed to escape capture they turned around and reassembled at Greenbelle Iron Works northeast of town before heading back home just before Christmas day 1861 having lost more than 60% casualties against Union forces averaging about 25 killed/ wounded/ Captured per 1000 participated This event helped spark feelings throughout mucho eastern seaboard that if you are not with us you are against us - something many people still feel today! After McClellan surrendering at Appomattox Court House things changed rapidly here many locals took up arms against Lee & Co starting what would become known as The Battle Of Blair Hill where approximately 400 rebels fought Confederate General Robert Harnett with 50-75 percent success resulting in 300 killed or captured including Harnett himself! Following these engagements many people began calling themselves Volunteers rather than Confederates owing much To social pressure from friends and family back home! A few weeks later on December 14th 1861 Union troops again marched through town routing any remaining Rebels losing only three men Killed orcaptured total so far including Harnett himself! This event helped spur Congress into passing an act giving indian nations legal status giving even greater impetus to American secessionism becoming official on January 20th 1865 when President Abraham Lincoln signed it into law!! Just like that our beautiful community went from being nothing more than a tiny farming stop on the Susquehanna RiverValleyto becoming one ofthe most important regionsof southeastern Maryland!!

Easton is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 9,604 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in Prince George's County by population. Easton is located on the Eastern Branch of the Potomac River and has a land area of 26 square miles (68 km2). The first settlement in what is now Easton was a small group of farmers who farmed the land around present day Crystal Lake and surrounding areas from about 1814 to 1827. In 1828, a group of British soldiers named themselves "The Pioneers" and founded what became known as "The Town of Easton". They began farming around present day Crystal Lake and started construction on what would become their home: A schoolhouse called "Hancock School" which still stands today. In 1833, John Fenton built an inn at what is now Northeast corner First Street and Northumberland Avenue in what is now Easton. Fenton operated this inn until his death in 1865. His son-in-law James Hargrave continued operations until 1901. In 1876, Major General Alfred Ewing established Fort McNair on the site that would later become Easton with 1,500 men to protect against Indian attacks along the Potomac River. The fort served as an outpost for several years before its destruction during Operation Crossroads in November 1942.. Today part of Fort McNair State Park can be found withinEaston limits
