In 1836, the first store in Easton opened its doors. By 1852, Easton had reached its peak as an industrial center and boasted a population of over 1,000 people. In order to keep pace with the ever-growing industry, the town fathers decided to build a schoolhouse in 1857. The school was originally built on what is now Main Street and served students from kindergarten through grade 12. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, the school was unable to keep up with the growing population and ceased operations in 1861. However, due to its importance as a community resource and historical significance, the building is still standing today and is used as a library branch. Throughout its history, Easton has been home to many influential individuals including contractors George Washington Carver and Eli Whitney Sr., physician Drs. David Simons and Jeremiah Dixon (founder of Dixon Tire & Rubber Company), businessmen Joseph Mathers (founder of Joplin Lumber Company) and John Fenton (founder of Eastern Star Theater). Additionally, throughout this time period there were also several technological innovations such as electric lights which first appeared inEaston in 1865 and automobiles which made their debut at the 1912 Goodyear Auto Show before reaching widespread popularity two decades later when they were featured on ABC's "The Great American Race". Easton, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 7,362 as of the 2010 census. The town is named after John Easton, an American Revolutionary War general and delegate from Pennsylvania to the Continental Congress. The first permanent settler in what is now Easton was James Smith in 1784. By 1800, Easton had a population of 350 people. In 1814, the U.S. Census counted 1,500 people in the township; by 1880 it had grown to 6,812 residents living within its limitsathe largest increase since its incorporation as a village on January 1st of that year. According to the 2000 census there are 11 schools serving students grades K-12 in Easton: Alvin Ailey High School (9th-12th grades), Delaware Valley Middle School (7th-8th grades), Glen Burnie Intermediate School (5th-6th grades), Friendship Heights Elementary School (3rd-4th grade), Mount Hebron Intermediate School (2nd-4th grade), and South River Road Elementary School (1st through 3rd grades). Additionally there are two churches – St Johns Anglican Church which serves Episcopal visitors and residents as well as Lutheran services for residents of neighboring Bethesda; and First Baptist Church which has served Catholics and Baptists for generations with mixed results In terms of employment options there are three large employers within close proximity to town: Verizon FiOS fiber optic services company MetroPCS providing long distance phone service on routes throughout Eastern Shore counties; Alexco Metals Inc., home builder whose products include homesites located just east of town off Route 443; and Great Lakes Paper Company which manufactures paper products including some types of cardboard and insulation before exporting them all over the world

Easton, Maryland is a small town in Prince George's County, Maryland. The population was 9,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–Baltimore Metropolitan Area. Easton is located on Harford Road south of the Capital Beltway and east of Gaithersburg. The town was founded in 1795 by Col. John Easton as a Protestant Settlement on lands purchased from the Native Americans. In 1814, when Fort Monroe was built to protect Maryland's eastern border from Invasion by France, Colonel Easton donated land in what is now Easton to create an outpost for military purposes and enlarged his holdings to include all of Prince George's County. In 1828, General David Hunter occupied Battle Point Light on the Potomac River near present-day Bowie while looking for British forces who had invaded America two years earlier during Queen Victoria's reign. He ordered Major James Longstreet to burn down buildings in Easton so that no one could learn about his search and report back to friendly Britain until he found them first. On October 12, 1861, Confederate Brigadier General Robert Ewell arrived at Harper's Ferry with 1,500 men after crossing the Potomac River into Virginia en route to Gettysburg where he planned to attack Union forces under Ulysses S Grant. After reaching Harper's Ferry late on September 11th and finding that supplies were running short due to lack of Johnston’s army advancing through Virginia towards Lynchburg (now Charlottesville), Ewell decided against attacking Union positions at Harper’s Ferry and returned home instead; this left only 4 infantry battalions (1st Brigade) totaling around 3200 men available for battle if needed which did not happen because Grant advance reached Johnson’s Gap on September 15th without encountering any opposition beyond a few scattered artillery pieces positioned along Antietam Creek northeast of Harper’s Ferry). This strategic location would come into play later when Confederate General Jubal Early attacked Grants army near Centreville Junction north-central Md., routing it before it reached Fairfax Court House outside Danville early November 8TH1865 resulting in over 9000 casualties including 7 generals killed or mortally wounded including Johnston himself – “The Day Of The Confederacy” – less than 2 weeks after starting its cross-country offensive against Ulysses S Grant throughout much of Eastern PA & VA
Easton is one of the oldest towns in Maryland. It was first settled by the Algonquian-speaking Lenape in 1609. The area now known as Easton was part of Charles County until 1821, when it became a part of Prince George's County. Easton was incorporated as a town on February 14, 1849, from portions of Charles and Prince George's counties.
