Easton, Maryland is a small town located in Montgomery County, Maryland. The population was 9,858 at the 2010 census. The town began as a farming community in 1777, when George Easton donated land to the government for public use. By 1801, Easton had developed into an agricultural center with over 100 farms and some dozen shops and stores. In 1881, Easton became the county seat of Montgomery County after becoming one of the first towns in America to be incorporated. During World War II, Easton played an important role in the production of munitions for the war effort. The town's factories produced shells and other materials used in building warships and planes alike. After World War II ended, many jobs were lost as manufactures moved away from east coast cities towards mini-majors such as technology or toys manufacturing locations in states like Ohio or Florida according to Dick O'Brien who wrote "The Paper Towns: A History of American Suburbia". However, since 2000s there have been new economic development projects such as real estate development around Metro Green Line stations which has lead to more job growth for locals including restaurateurs and hoteliers which have drawn attention from expatriates living within walking distance of central business districts across North America like New York City or Los Angeles

Easton, Maryland was founded in 1784 by Captain Robert Morris as a trading post on the Susquehanna River. In 1812, Easton became part of Frederick County and was renamed for General George Washington. In 1834, the county was divided into two parts and Easton became part of Frederick County again. In 1935, the eastern half of Frederick County merged with Anne Arundel County to form a new national state called Maryland. The town of Easton is located in east central Frederick County and straddles the river's border with Anne Arundel County to the west. The population of Easton in 2010 was 15,049. The first settlers in what is now eastcentral Frederick County were farmers who arrived from Pennsylvania about 1784. By 1800, they had built homes around what is now downtown Easton. They raised livestock and grew crops until their land proved too fertile for farming alone and they turned to trade goods with surrounding Indian nations for goods they could not produce themselves such as timber or flour. At first these traders traded only with other Indian nations but soon began importing European manufactured goods such as guns and clothing which helped grow the town's economy even further. In 1821, Captain John Smith established a trading post at present-day Market Street in what is now downtown Easton after discovering a rich copper mine near modern day Bowie, Maryland on his trip through western Maryland during his exploration of that area for mineral properties he hoped to purchase. Smith's post served as an important commercial center where people from all over easternMaryland came to buy coal, salt water fish, Native American artifacts and other items sold by Smiths' assistants inside what is now known as Market Hall (now called Colonial Williamsburg Museum). As commerce grew along the Susquehanna River corridor it attracted more settlers including those from northern Virginia who arrived via boatloads aboard ships sailing upriver from Norfolk before finally landing at Market Street dockside on July 4th, 1794 following passage downriver from Yorktown under British Captains Howe and Warwick (MDG #2) on HMS "Eagle". For more than 100 years this event remains one of history's most memorable moments because it signaled America's entry into Confederation as a new nation – an event that has been celebrated annually by Americans across both political parties throughout history culminating recently in our Fourth of July celebration here in east central Frederick County!
