Easton, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 30,763 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–National Capital Area. Easton was founded by entrepreneurs John Easton and his brother James Easton in 1792 as a small settlement on the east side of Catoctin Creek. They named it after their father-in-law, Colonel Edward Everett Alden (1736-1810), who had come to America from England in 1768 and served in the Virginia Regiment under General George Washington during the American Revolution. After years of growth and development, Easton Station reached its peak Population numbering over 60 in 1905. In 1917, when World War I began with Europe into chaos, many Americans left for military service and Easton quickly became one of the most heavily bombed towns in America with over 50 bombings between 1917 and 1918 alone! In 1949–1950 when Prince George's County was created from parts of Montgomery County including Easton Township, both John Easton Sr., patriarch of the original settlers and his son John Easton Jr., were honored by becoming citizens of Prince George's County along with other pioneers like Dr. Halsey Price (founder & first medical doctor) who had also moved to what is now Catoctin Creek Drive within minutes of each other just prior to countyhood meetings on January 14th that year; Samuel Morse (founder & first president & director Baltimore Telegraph Company); Daniel Carroll (founder & first postmaster general U.S.) ; Revs./ missionaries Rufus King (bishop & founder Episcopal Diocese of Baltimore) ; William Cowen ††(publisher Evening Post/Baltimore Sunday Times ); Mrs./Mrs.(1854-) Mary Jaffe (* 1847 - ††) . These individuals are among notable founders or leaders which helped form what would become today’s vibrant community located on rolling farmland bordered by beautiful Catoctin Creek Valley extending all around them including Interstate 295 on one side and Route 395 on another making for easy access to all areas without leaving home or Commercial Drive shopping center where much progress has been made recently such as new high school building complete taking 8 years from start to finish linking up with nearby public schools; multiple businesses such as CVS Pharmacy opened located adjacent to numerous convenience stores/grocery chains providing everyday needs such as gasoline, milk products etc.; several churches have progressed through construction / completion such as First Baptist Church completed in 2006 following a $60 million dollar donation from Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen; newest addition being Samaritan’s Purse international Relief Society Chapel completed fall 2017 vacated former Catholic church across streets vacant since 2002 having offered sanctuary to refugees fleeing violence various locations throughout Greater Baltimore area while also conducting social services; finally an outdoor amphitheater allowing live music performances seasonally inside until 2019 will be coming soon bringing many things closer together making this once rural community into something more resembling a modern day cityscape giving hope for future generations that this type of progress can continue without facing any challenges

The town moved to its current location on Landis Road in 1834. Easton's population peaked at 11,500 people in 1950 but has since declined due to various factors such as suburbanization and loss of jobs in the aerospace industry. Today, Easton is a small community with a focus on education and cultural diversity. The town has two elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. It is the smallest community in Montgomery County and the second-smallest community in Maryland after Towson. The village of Easton was founded by James Oglethorpe on April 6, 1793 as a post office on land that he had purchased from John Wise. On September 12, 1834, it became part of the new county of Frederick. On January 1, 1914, it became a part of the newly created county of Baltimore County. On October 15, 1861, during the American Civil War (1861–1865), Easton's Union forces were defeated by Confederate forces led by Major General Robert Ewell at Battle of Monocacy Ridge outside present-day Easton. In 1892 when Baltimore State College opened its doors in nearby Edgewood and eastward expansion began to occur along US 11 (now US 301), residents petitioned for statehood which was granted on November 3rd with a vote of 738 to 132 against by Governor Thomas Loyd Pratt. In 1951 eastward growth resumed when West Point High School opened adjacent to current day Bowie Elementary School; this school would become one of four high schools within Bowie City Schools jurisdiction today and continue serving students from east side neighborhoods until it closed in 2003 due to budget constraints. EasternHighSchoolsMD Inc., an educational development corporation owned wholly or partially by private individuals witheastwest interests has been responsible for various upgrades/new construction projects throughout Bowie City Schools since its creation including preparatory classes for both boys & girls incoming 8th grade students enrolled into city public schools located near Bowie Elementary School(renamed EasternHighSchools MD Inc.)
