Easton, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 24,890 at the 2010 census. Settled by Germans during the 18th century, Easton became known as "the German Town" because of its large number of German-owned businesses and residents. The town has since become an agricultural community heavily dependent on crops such as wheat, corn, soybeans, and apples. The first European to set foot in what is now Easton was Nicholas Goode in 1684. He built a homestead on the east side of Elk Creek and named it Goode's Ferry after his brother Nathaniel who had earlier founded nearby FrederickTownship. In 1773 James Swartzentruber arrived with his family fromupper Austria to start a farm near present day Bowie Street and called it Westover after Swartzentruber's fatherland which he had visited on his way there from Vienna. These early settlers were followed by others over time including 1800 Irishman John Dooley who set up a sawmill on Elk Creek where he still operates today. In 1828 Isaac Nevin platted what is now Easton into township form using land that lay west of present day Elk Creek Road/Route 527A (now Northumberland Avenue). This act created an agricultural society that persists to this day with more than 100 farms located within the limits of Easton Township During the late 19th century many immigrants settled in eastern Prince George's County around MD towns like Bowie and Catonsville due to strong job opportunities available in Baltimore City Some pioneers like John Ahern started small businesses while others erected frame houses or bought land for agriculture near present day Eastern Boulevard/route 811 (now Northumberland Avenue) which served as their gateway into the growing township . After World War II many people left rural areas for better paying jobs inland but Easton remains an agricultural community heavily reliant on crops such as wheat, corn, soybeans, and apples

Easton, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–Baltimore metropolitan area. The first European to visit Easton was Captain John Smith on July 2, 1607. He named it "Occoquan" after a large body of water near his landing on the Susquehanna River. In 1784, General James K. Polk ordered Colonel George Armstrong Custer to burned all evidence of hostile Indian activity in and around Easton; this event is sometimes called the "Battle of Easton." The last true battle fought in and around Easton took place during World War II when American forces repelled an attempted Japanese invasion from within its borders. In 1814, Isaac Brock built what is now known as Brock House as his home while he served as justice of the peace for Prince George's County. On October 4th he married Martha Custis (died 1836), daughter of John Anson Custis and Letitia Wright Maxwell ( sister-in-law to President James K Polk). A post office called "Eatonville" was established in 1828, but discontinued operation in 1840 due tothe familys move to Bowie. A new post office called "Easton" was established on February 14th, 1849 by act of Congress under the name Eatonburg; it continued operations until closing on December 15th 1956 due to lack of mail volume from that location alone! On November 25th 1909 Congressman Charles Wickersham became the first Democrat elected from Prince George's County when he won against incumbent Republican nominee David Levy by over 100 votes! At that time only 3 out of 42 counties in Maryland had voting districts! In 1920 Congressman Emanuel Celler became one of just 5 members from District 1 who did not run for re-election following his death suddenly after being sworn into office! In 1931 Congressman Martin Henson won reelection against Rep Robert Hoyer with 68% of the vote! After serving 8 terms Representative Harry Byrd joined Representative Henson in becoming one Of The Big Five – representativemen could now be hired rather then elected through running for election every two years like before! After 10 terms representing District 1 Harry Byrd decided instead to retire effective January 3rd 1977….. finally ending 50 years plus service by a congressman from district 1
