Easton, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 397 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–Baltimore–Charles Town, MD-VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled by Germans in 1792 and named "Emmetsburg." It was incorporated as a town on July 1, 1834. The name of the town comes from John Easton, an early settler who arrived in 1792 and ranched land here. In 1814, Easton married Sarah Ann Caldwell and they moved to what is now Frederick Township where they raised six children. They sold their holdings here in 1827 to become owners of what is now Woodbridge Township. In 1830, John Easton Jr., another German settler arrived at Emmitsburg with his family and platted this community on land that he had bought from David Lewis (the father of George Washington Lewis). He served as its first postmaster and justice of the peace. In 1850, when Maryland became a state, Easton voted unanimously to join it; however because he lived outside Baltimore City limits at that time, he did not enjoy full voting rights until 1861 when he voted on matters within city limits for the first time In 1860s many wealthy Americans decided to move out of Baltimore City due to racial unrest over slavery and other issues which were developing throughout America during those years Eventually all but one resident (John Easton) left for Arlington County Va . Easton has a rich history that can be seen in its architecture, businesses, and community. The town is also home to several monuments and landmarks that are important to its history. The first settlers of what would become Easton were farmers who traveled from Pennsylvania. They arrived in early 1795 and began farming the land that would eventually become Easton. In 1804, John Easton purchased 5 acres of land from Captain Isaac Yeadle for $100 USD. He named his new settlement after his father-in-law, General James Webb who had died in 1794. The original store and homes were built on this property which continued to be used as a farm until about 1870 when it was donated to the local school district for use as a library building. In 1846, Eastern Maryland became part of the newly formed United States of America following the Mexican American War. This change brought with it many changes for the town including an increase in population density due to waves of immigrants arriving during this time period seeking opportunities within the new country. By 1850, there were over 1,000 people living in Easton with over 100 businesses operating within its boundaries alone! During World War II, many residents served in the military or were called into service due to their roles in agriculture or manufacturing sectors; however, few residents actually lived inside city limits at that time (Easton annexed portions of Washington County circa 1945). Many residents left during and immediately after World War II due to various economic conditions specific to post-war America; however, some stayed through reconstruction efforts which included construction work on Interstate 95 between Baltimore and Washington D.C.. Afterward, most residents returned home although a small number still resided outside city limits until around 1970 when they again annexed parts of Washington County (the last annexation took place circa 1995). Today, Easton continues its rich cultural heritage with events such as the annual Heritage Festival which features artisans from all over Maryland exhibiting their crafts along with food samples from local restaurants/cafes/bars; as well as more traditional events like Fourth OF JULY fireworks displays off Century Boulevard nightly throughout summer months!
