This area would eventually become one of downtown easton`s most important streets - Ewing Street - which runs parallel to Interstate 95 north-south and west-east. In 1827, Captain John Waddell laid out a road from Fredericktown to Huntingdon Valley as part of plans to connect Baltimore with Washington Territory via this new route. The road became known as "Waddell Road". Development in eastON continued apace during this time with businesses opening up along Ewing Street such as Hartsfield & Co., Goldsmiths & Company, Wilkinson Bros., Midland Mail Depot and Naylor's Furniture Store among others On October 3rd 1860, when Maryland statehood was granted to America`, all towns within its borders were required to adopt a flag () flying at half staff (). After some debate (), Easton chose blue-and-white stripes as their flag`s coloration (). On July 4th 1861 (), Congressman Hiram Johnson recommended that Congress pass an act providing for militia duty on Eastern Shore townships against slave insurrectionists! A committee chaired by Congressman John Rankin met on November 5th 1861 to recommend arming these soldiers! However due to lack of funding it was not until 1862 that any rifles or artillery were provided for these militias! Consequently skirmishes between Union Militia and Confederate troops occurred sporadically throughout the early years of American Civil War

The first settlement in what is now Easton was built on land that had been donated by Cadwallader Colden to the community. The town was named for General James Fox (1728-1799), who served as an important advisor to the British government during the American Revolution. In 1783, President George Washington visit Easton and inspected the local militia unit which had been organized by Colonel John Thornton. In 1785, General James Hardee moved his brigade from West Point to stop British forces from invading America. After this event, Easton became an important trading center between America and Europe due to its proximity to both points of entry. In 1803, Easton became part of Maryland when it became a state based on the admission of that country into Confederation under Great Britain. At this time, most English-speaking settlers in America were migrating westward because their homes were destroyed or taken over by American Indians or other Europeans during Indian Removal policy implemented by president George Washington pursuant to his executive order number 1213 dated December 1, 1790. As development took place around Easton in subsequent years there were many improvements made including: two churches built in 1819–20; a school building completed in 1844; an addition section added to the original courthouse building in 1910; and more recent additions such as a fire station (1964) and a golf course (1974).
