This report helped lead to advancements in site selection process and improved accuracy when firing artillery munitions! Easton, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 20,582 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area and is located on Interstate 95 about 25 miles north of downtown Washington D.C.. The town was founded by John Easton in 1795 as a small settlement on the Potomac River between present-day Alexandria and Manassas Junction. It became an incorporated village in 1836 and a city in 1907. In 1952, it merged with neighboring Friendship to form the current municipality of Easton-Friendship-Springfield. In 1962, Easton became home to one of the first open air universities when Eastern Shore University opened its doors there. In 2002, Eastern Shore University closed its doors after more than 60 years of operation; however, it reopened as EasternCollege Online in 2016 with new campus facilities and programs across two campuses: one located on Harford Road in Springfield Township and another located on Rte 238 just outside Eastontown Landing Shopping Center adjacent to IHOP restaurant). According to Census data from 2000, 24% of all households were made up of individuals and 10% had someone living alone who was 65 years or older. The average household size was 2 people and the average family size was 3 people

In 1881, Easton became a city and has since grown to include a population of over 100,000 people. Eaton House is a historic house located at 6253 Eaton Road in Easton. Built about 1790, it is one of the earliest examples of Federal architecture in Maryland and is significant for its elaborate gable roofline and front porch. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The Garrett School District encompasses 8 elementary schools throughout eastern Montgomery County: Garrett Elementary School (1926), Northview Middle School (1965), Lutherville-Stroudsburg High School (1973), McGuire Gardens Elementary School (1985), Meadow Brook Intermediate/Secondary School (1991), South Mountain Park Middle/High Schools (1996) and Westmont Intermediate/Secondary School (2002). The district also includes two middle schools which serve students from east Montgomery County as well as portions of Elkridge and Owings Mills counties: Garrett-AlumniMiddleSchool(2001) and Owings Mills-Garland Middle/High Schools(2005).
Easton was founded in 1795 by Captain John Easton and his wife, Sarah. The town was originally named "Olde Towne" but was renamed to "Easton" in honor of John Easton's ancestor, also named John. The first settler in the community, James Wistar, arrived in 1797. In 1814, the town received a charter from Prince George Calvert as an incorporated village. Easton had a population of about 100 people when it became part of Frederick County on July 1, 1827. On January 1, 1829, the county was merged into Maryland and Easton became one of its five townships. In 1850, the township lost its charter and became part of Carroll County under the new system of government. On May 14th 1861, during the American Civil War (1861-1865), easton residents fought for Confederate forces against Union troops under General Robert Ewell at Battle of Sharpsburg. During this battle many residents were killed or wounded including Captain John Easton who died soon after from his wounds
