Easton is a town in Montgomery County, Maryland, United States. The population was 21,766 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and is located on the Potomac River south of Anacostia. Easton is home to Bethesda National Military Park and nearby Reagan National Airport. The first known permanent European settlement in what is now eastern Montgomery County was made by men from England in 1634 when they constructed a ford over the Potomac River near present-day Easton. The town's name may have been derived from English "easton" meaning "bridgehead." In 1792, John Smith built a gristmill on an east-west road that led from Rockville to West Friendship Township and then to Easton; this mill became one of the earliest commercial establishments in what would become Montgomery County. In 1827, land around present-day Easton was donated by James Knoppers (1763–1832), who had married Martha Washington's daughter Eleanor Randolph (1785–1845). Knoppers founded Eastern Star Lodge No. 573 as a Masonic lodge and served as its first master general until his death in 1836. He left behind property valued at $10,000 which he divided among his five children: Augustus Wistar Knoppers (1802–81), Isaac Wistar Knopper (1804–75), George Washington Knopper (1807–93), Mary Anna Randolph Knopper (1809–68) and Eleanor Randolph Knopper (1812/13 – 1865). He also donated land to be used as a public school district which included present-day Easton Township, West Friendship Township and parts of neighboring jurisdictions such as Bowie Township and Hyattsville Borough before it became part of the District of Columbia School Board in 1898. In 1907, Frederick Law Olmsted designed new streetscape for what would become downtown EastON after many years of surveying for plans for Mount Vernon National Cemetery within city limits; these streets were later named Kalorama Drive after Olmsted himself along with other Streetscape designations given to various areas throughout Verizon Center including Freedom Plaza/National Mall Plaza & South Lawn Oval Drive etc.. Eastón has experienced rapid growth since its incorporation into Montgomery County as an unincorporated community during World War II with estates being developed along Elkridge Road near Bowie Arsenal while businesses developed along Interstate 95 corridor north of town including shopping centers like Macy’s & JCPenney while farmland was developed just outside town limits adjacent to Anacostia Creek

Easton is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 11,771 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. Easton was founded in 1795 by Scots-Irish immigrants as a port on the Patuxent River and rapidly grew into a rural community with commercial fisheries and other industries. Its Panic of 1819 caused an economic crash that left many families homeless, but it recovered quickly and became one of America's most prosperous towns during the antebellum period. In 1868, local residents helped found Johns Hopkins University and rapid growth occurred in both educational and industrial sectors; today Easton is home to several high-tech companies as well as two major universities: Johns Hopkins University (the largest employer) and Temple University.residential areas include: The first section of Easton developed along what is now US Route 1A (now US Route 301). This early area included two small settlements called Bethel and Springettsville, which were located on each side of the Patuxent River between present-day Walters Road east of downtown and PA Turnpike west of town limits. These settlements grew rapidly due to fishing opportunities available from upstream sites such as Falls Church upstream from present day US 1A/301E. By 1800, bethel had a store, schoolhouse, post office, bath house and three Pisgah Forge log homes were built there with around ten additional colonists living there including James Caldwell who would later become one of America's leading entrepreneurs In 1806 John Brown established himself at Fallston about eight miles northeast of present day Easton on land gifted by his wife Deborah Ann Randolph for her husband's education at Eton College before he returned to Lexington Kentucky to start an uprising against British rule Some interesting facts about this time include that: "John Brown was born in 1755 near Parsonsburg Pennsylvania’s Indian village where his father took up hunting when he was just five years old." "Randolph donated 5 acres adjacent to her home in western MD to serve as “a new plantation for Mr. John Brown” – possibly stands for “an excellent farmgate”." "At about 16 years oldBrown married Deborah Ann Randolph Spaeth (1759–1824), daughter of Judge Abraham Spaeth Jr., one half brother (and namesake)of General James Gadsden" ". At some point after this young couple moved away from their original property they may have acquired some additional land nearby." "Accordingnearly forty years after Brown died in 1865 African Americans were voting en masse in MD until 1861 when voting rights were banned following the Civil War."
