Easton, Maryland is a city in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 21,811 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Prince George's County and the second-largest municipality in Maryland after Baltimore. Easton is located on the Potomac River near Washington D.C., about 25 miles (40 km) east of Baltimore and 45 miles (72 km) north of Annapolis. The town date back to 1684 when Captain John Smith discovered land that would become Easton on July 4th of that year while exploring what is now known as MD-1. The first permanent settler arrived in 1767 with James Bowie and his family from Virginia. Over time, other families followed including William Stone Sr., who founded Bowietown in 1793; Elijah Youngblood (1796-1848), who built Heidelberg in 1802; Jeremiah Quinn (1801-1868), who founded Quinnsville in 1806; Samuel Weisenthal (1822-1910), who founded Weisenthal Mills in 1828; Augustus Guthrie (1829-1909), father of author Augustus Guthrie Graham; and Abraham Driver (1800-1882). Easton was named for Major General Benjamin Butler by order of King George III on October 15th, 1827 during the American Revolution. On December 12th 1861, Union troops under Colonel Robert Eaddy burned down houses belonging to Confederate sympathizers east of Market Street near present day Eastern Parkway Drive following an engagement during the Battle of Antietam Creek Bridge campaign between Union forces commanded by Brigadier General Nathaniel Peebles and Confederate Lieutenant Colonel James Longstreet’s Brigade under Colonel Robert Anderson. This event served as a rallying cry for soldiering against slavery before and after the Civil War which helped drive many southern slaves into neighboring states such as Pennsylvania or Delaware where they could be Freedmen camps or areas used for agricultural production until reintegration into society occurred years later through gradual assimilation into local populations without forcible removal or adoption by new citizens. In 1865 much of present day Easton was burned down again during a night firefight between Federal troops led by Colonel George Armstrong Custer along with Confederate forces commanded by General Joffre Lamarques at Old Fort Johnson Site withinpresent day Eastern Boulevard just west of US 301/MD Route 1 intersection

Easton, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 5,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington-Baltimore-Fayetteville metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlement in present-day Easton was founded by Captain John Smith on July 4, 1607 as "New Salesbury." He named it after his home town of Salisbury, England. surveyors had already named what is now Prince George's County - Eastern Shore and Western Shore counties - in 1776 when British General James Wolfe raided the Susquehanna Valley and burned Martinsburg and other settlements near Fredericktown. In 1777 Secretary of War Robert Dinwiddie ordered Major John Forbes to erect a forts at Westport on the Patuxent River to secure passage for British forces heading into Canada through that valley during the Seven Years' War. In 1783 Easton became one of four townships within Prince George's County when it was split from Fredericktown Township. On October 1st of that year, Easton voters approved a charter creating a townhall which would be located on Main Street between Second and Fourth Streets. The original town hall building still stands today (although severely damaged by fire in 2017). On January 12th, 1827, President James K. Polk issued an Executive Order creating "Eastern Market" – an open air market located east of Ulysses S Grant Boulevard – as part of plans to modernize American markets across the country following Andrew Johnson's "War on Drugs" campaign against opium addiction throughout much of America. Baron Baltimore de Estrella donated land adjacent to present day Greenbelt for public housing development known as Johns Hopkins University Hospital Campus later called Park Heightsphase I & II; this area also included what is now Pimlico Circle NE & McPherson Square SW cornering Easton Avenue NW; these areas are now known as Bowie Place NE & Woodley Place SE cornering Bel Air Road NW . The Town Council passed an ordinance establishing Sunday morning worship services at First Baptist Church (now St Andrews Episcopal) on September 10th 1935 followed by community prayer meetings each evening from 7 pm until midnight with Pastor Wilt Chamberlain presiding over all meetings except those held overnight due to weather conditions or special circumstances such as war emergency mobilization or natural disasters like Hurricane Agnes which caused extensive damage along Eastern Shore communities including EastON
