Easton, Maryland is a small town located in Prince George's County, Maryland. The population was 3,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington–Baltimore–MD Metropolitan Statistical Area. Easton is known for its Potomac River views and as home to Wellesley College, one of the United States' largest private colleges. The area that now includes Easton was first settled by Europeans in the early 1700s. The first permanent settler arrived in 1796 when John Childs moved from Northampton County, Pennsylvania to what is now Easton Township and founded a small farm on land he inherited from his father. In 1821, Edward Everett took possession of what would become Easton Township from John Childs and set about building roads and creating a community center which he called "Everett". It wasn't until 1824 that the town of Easton was officially founded when citizens of neighbouring communities met together to create a governing body called the Congregational Society of Friends (Quakers). The first mayor was James Aiken who served for two terms between 1825 and 1830; during this time, local mills were built as well as stores and homes. In 1829, residents voted to name their community after George Washington which they attribute to his role in helping secure independence for America. During World War II many businesses closed due to wartime scarcity but Wellesley College kept open with help from friends including General Electric Company president Samuel J. Watson Sr.. Today Wellesley offers more than 200 undergraduate majors across 10 faculties with an international reach. A new high school opened in 1995 named after Driscoll High School alumnus Driscoll himself which helped revive business around town while also expanding opportunities for students outside of Wellesley College such as Stuyvesant High School whose alumni have played professional football since 1988 including Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis III.. In May 2009, it was announced that Wellesley had successfully applied for government funding through both Race To THE Top grant competition as well as Affordable Housing Opportunities Grant Program aimed at increasing access to quality affordable housing within walking distance or less of all participating universities

The site chosen for the post consisted of land that had been donated by Colonel George Washington. The first buildings were erected here in 1785-86 and soon became known as "The Castle." In 1814, during the Mexican–American War, General James K. Polk's army invaded Baltimore and destroyed much of Easton's infrastructure including mills and churches. However, due to its location on US 1 (the old Patapsco Road), Easton continued to function as a commercial center until after the war ended in 1821. In 1865, during Reconstruction following Reconstruction days in America following the American Civil War, many African Americans who had fled slavery settled in rural Garrett County communities such as EastON and nearby Hagerstown due to new opportunities opened up after reconstruction laws were passed Congress providing for black civil rights throughout America which began in 1865 ADT."Garrett County History" online resource. In 1870-71 General Gouverneur Morris Tours through Garrett Co., Md., stopping at EasternON several times & remarking about "4 choice black families living perfect contentedly under white roofs". His report led finally to passage of Governor Parke's Freedman's Bureau Bill creating all sorts of special provisions for these citizens without regard to race or color – one among them being right to vote. Accordingly enrolling over 5000 freedmen within six months EasternON boasted 80% voter turnout! Easton is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 10,794 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baltimore–Washington Metropolitan Area. The first settlers in what would become Easton were three brothers who arrived in 1772 from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. In 1814, Captain John Kirby set up a store and post office in what is now the downtown area of Easton. In 1827, Easton was incorporated as an organized town. The town began to grow rapidly due to its location on the then-new York Road (now Interstate 395). By 1830, Easton had a population of over 20 people and by 1840 it had reached 30 people. In 1847, soldiers under General James K. Polk burned down buildings in eastern Bethlehem Township while retreating from Mexico during the Mexican–American War. This event later became known as "the fire of Independence". In 1850, Eastern Maryland Railway Company built a railroad through east central Prince George's County from North Frederick to synergy with other railroads in that region such as Baltimore & Ohio Railroad and Washington & Macomb Railroad; this helped spur development along York Road which led to more businesses opening up and people coming to live in Easton. It wasn't until after World War II that growth really picked up for eastcentral Prince George's County due to improved transportation options brought about by air travel and easy access to larger cities like Baltimore or Washington D.C.. Today, much of eastcentral Prince George's County still suffers from economic deprivation due to lack of job opportunities within miles of any major city or shopping center - something which has been compounded by repeated flooding throughoutPrince George's County over recent years which has made housing even harderto find and sell
