Easton is a town in Garrett County, Maryland, United States. The population was 6,913 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area and is located about east of Washington National Airport. Easton's ZIP Code is 20701. The first settlement in what would become Easton was made on July 4, 1776 by a group of men of the Continental Congress under the leadership of George Washington. The town was named for Colonel John Easton who had been with General Washington during his march from New York to Pennsylvania on April 12–13, 1776. In 1824, General David Dixon decided to move eastward from Baltimore due torising taxes and increasing competition from new settlements in that region such as Rockville and Alexandria. Dixon ordered his army to march through Easton on their way to Fort McHenry on October 14th and 15th against the American forces led by Sir Anthony Wayne but they were stopped short by local militia led by Captain William Troup shortly before reaching Easton. 4 years later (1829), Drury Lane built a saw mill around which began developing the towns commercial life with rail transportation coming soon afterwards connecting Baltimore-Washington D.C., Md., with Eastern Marylandchester state line via Harford Road until it became outdated in 1925 when Interstate 95 bypassed most of rural Maryland including EastON

The first settlers in Easton were French Canadians who arrived in 1749 and built a log cabin on the east bank of the river. The settlement grew gradually until 1821 when it became an organized town under the name of Georgetown. In 1827, Easton incorporated as a city and began to grow rapidly with influxes of refugees from the American Revolution and warring factions in neighboring counties. The city reached its peak during World War II with populations over 100,000 residents. However, due to economic decline and suburbanization since then, Easton has become a small community again with population around 10,000 today. One of downtown's most popular features is its farmers market which takes place every Saturday morning from 7am-1pm outside City Hall building starting at 4:00pm BST or 9am-12pm EST
