The store was called the “ Ammunition Exchange” because it sold ammunition to both military and civilian customers. In 1861, the Ammunition Depot burned down due to a fire that started in a munitions ship nearby.

The first known inhabitants of what is now Easton are thought to have been Native American people. In 1682, English settlers arrived in what is now Easton and began to build homes. By 1814, Easton had a population of about 100 people and was incorporated as a town. In 1892, an act was passed by Congress which designated the area around present-day Easton as part of Washington Township for the benefit of citizens who lived on or near Mt. Vernon Road (now US 301). This act also provided for the erection of a schoolhouse and other public buildings in what is nowEaston. During World War II, many residents served in the military either through service or donation to organizations such as TheVolunteerCouncil or TheAmerican Legion; many others worked Their families during wartime while still living within their own homes. Many businesses have been founded within the past few decades that include: Eastern Gas Company (founded 1950), PNC Bank (founded 1956), Verizon Wireless (founder 1995), Bob Evansessen's grocery store (founded 1982) and Stroudsburg Furniture Company (founded 1905). These businesses have helped make Easton one of Maryland's most active towns with more than 20 full-time jobs and nearly 2 dozen Part-time jobs!

Easton is a town in Cecil County, Maryland, United States. The population was 5,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Statistical Area and was named for General George Easton who fought in the American Revolution. The first settlers in what is now Easton were farmers who arrived from England in 1676. In 1795, a post office called "Easton" was established, and remained in operation until 1887. As part of Cecil County, Easton came under the jurisdiction of District 4 of Baltimore City until it was merged into District 3 of Baltimore City in 1907. In 1870, three brothers founded a flour mill on the east bank of the Susquehanna River just downstream from present-day Easton High School; they were Isaac Newton Goodson (1825–1912), George Goodson (1828–1910), and John Goodson (1831–1909). The mill continued to be owned and operated by these four brothers until it ceased operations in 1928. The mill complex still stands today and houses several businesses including an antique store and a glass blowing business run by Arturo García de la Cruz Sr.. In 1876, two men named Levi Shaefer and James Aiken purchased land along US Route 50 near present day Bowie Lake which forms much of eastern Cecil County today; they laid out a townsite that same year. Easton's first building - a log cabin - was erected within weeks of its purchase. The Shaefers donated land for local schools as well as churches and other public buildings including Judge Arthur Janssen's court house which served as county courthouse from 1892 to 1898 before being moved to Bowieville courthouse where it remains to this day. A post office called "Easton" had been established at this location on December 2, 1865, but no mail reached residents there until January 1st, 1867 when letters started arriving via boatload from Harpers Ferry - then located upstream on MD 21 between Fredericktowne Heights & Clarksburg - thanks to Samuel Morse’s installation of his new Telegraph Line between Fredericktowne Heights & Patuxent River Valley
Easton was founded in 1755 by John Easton and his family. It was the first town in Somerset County, Maryland. The village of Easton developed around the east bank of the Susquehanna River. In 1814, Easton became a town and was incorporated as a city on December 16, 1818.
