When the University of Maryland first opened its doors in 1892, there was no electrical equipment or devices for students to use. However, over time, students and faculty began to request electric tasers for self-defense purposes. In 1899, the school leased a small room on the second floor of a building called Old Main for the purpose of conducting experiments with electricity as a means of incapacitating assailants. In 1902, an experimental device known as an "injector" was developed and installed in Old Main. This device consisted of two metal paddles connected by a wire. When turned on, this device would cause an assailant to fall victim to electric shock which would then stun them until they could be subdued or removed from the scene using hand forces or other methods. With these initial tests and experiences under our belt, UM began considering purchasing tasers for use by its students and faculty members. In 1912, UM purchased an industrial battery which it used to power the injectors at Old Main. In 1916, UM acquired another battery from Delco Electric Company which allowed us to power both injectors and our own Stun Gun system ( later renamed "The Taser"). UM continued purchasing new batteries throughout the years until 1959 when we reached our last purchase from Brownell Electric Company who still manufactures electric tasers today! We are grateful for their support over these years as we have made great strides in developing this technology into something safe and effective for everyoneinvolved!

College Park, Maryland is a small city located in the eastern portion of Montgomery County, Maryland. The population was 26,813 at the 2010 census. It lies about 20 miles (32 km) east of Washington D.C., and 25 miles (40 km) north of Baltimore. The University of Maryland, College Park is one of the most prominent universities in the United States and one of its largest employers. In addition to its undergraduate students and staff, College Park also houses several professional institutions including law enforcement and corrections; marketing; health care; information technology; forestry; and business administration. The city was founded by George Washington in 1785 as Mount Vernon Chapel on what is now Columbia Road NW in present-day northeast College Park Township. The first college graduate from this area graduated with a degree from Georgetown University in 1828: James K. Polk became Ulysses S. Grant’s Vice President that year at age 24 years old despite being only a high school dropout! In 1879, Prince Georges County formed part of Montgomery County which then included College Park. When Montgomery County was disbanded in 1907 it merged with Prince George’s County to become Oriolesburg/Montgomery County which included College Park once again within its boundaries until 1955 when it reverted back to Prince Georges County after becoming an independent municipality within that county for a brief period during World War II before reverting back to Oriolesburg/Montgomery Counties again following the war. During World War II there were more than 1 million troops stationed here including many service members who were educated here including star players like Jimmy Dean and Sonny Liston among others who attended local colleges such as Goucher Heights School and Howard University while serving their country overseas or afterwards making careers as officers or politicians both inside or outside government where they continued to make significant contributions until their deaths decades later such as John F Kennedy who attended Goucher Heights School before enrolling at Johns Hopkins where he would eventually become president – some would say too soon after his election victory given he had just turned 42 years old! For all those reasons why these colleges continue to play an important role in our lives today be it economically or academically there can be no question that this community has played an integral role not just locally but nationally throughout history whether we realize it or not!

In 1892, it merged withwoodrow Wilson's Washington and Lee University to form the University of Maryland System. The system became a private foundation in 1912 and was sold to the government in 1938. In 1969, it merged with other Maryland universities to form Johns Hopkins University.
