During this time, College Park also began to attract students from all over North America – including Europe. By 1830, College Park had graduated its first class of trustees and administrators. During this time, too, College Park started to gain international recognition for its educational programs. In 1835, it became known as “the Athens of North America” because it offered higher education at a level not available elsewhere on Earth at that time. The school even opened up its doors to students from other countries – something that wasn’t possible at that point in history! It was during this time that the idea for what is now known as John Foust Field was born! This fieldamnge served as both home turf for American football teams during traditional academic years (springtime through fall),and also allowed players from all over North America to come play against each other under one roof! By 1860, there were more than 100 colleges and universities across North America providing education at levels above high school level – making College Park oneofthe most selective destinations on Earth! And with technology becoming increasingly important throughout these years (such as steamboats!),it only made sense that College Park should continue developing cutting-edge technologies so that its students could stay ahead of curve! That’s exactly what happened! In 1871–72 (!), College Park erected a new campus building designed by famous architect James Kappeler called “The Star-House” – which still stands today serving as an iconic symbol of our university’s success!!
On July 14, 1814, the first College Park community was organized when a group of students from George Washington and Baltimore's two colleges met to discuss the possibility of forming a college in what is now College Park. The college was named for George Washington and it opened its doors on October 1, 1815.
