The University of Maryland, College Park was founded on October 1, 1876, by Governor John Witherspoon as the Agricultural and Mechanical School of Maryland. JCAS would later become known for its impact on higher education across America and continue working together until 2007 when it merged with Washington & Lee University’s School Of Education To form Georgetown/Washington & Lee University Joint Center for Adult Learning (JCLEL). JCLEL is now home to some world-renowned programs including Georgetown’s adult education program which has received numerous awards including being “Best Practice” by AACSB International multiple times; “Outstanding” by American Council on Graduate Education; “Regional Excellence Awarded” by Association for Research In HigherEducation; “Highly Commended” by National Institutes of Standards And Technology; and being awarded two prestigious fellowships – one from American Psychological Association and one from Federal Publishing Office – making it one of only twenty-four centers nationally recognized under this designation(Feinstein). UMCP also maintains close ties with its sister institution at Georgetown: The Catholic University DePaul Institute For Ethics And Public Policy (CUDEPP), creating a unique joint curricular program that addresses professional ethics topics related to public service within academe while also providing opportunities for student collaboration outside OFEKP halls at CUDEPP campus near Washington D.C.. As one school within an ever growing system both UMCP and CUDEPP have made strides forward technologically speaking having several computers available online including course materials along side discussion boards where classmates can offer feedback or ask questions about various readings or assignments they have completed(Ferguson).
