In the early 1800s, people in Cambridge, Maryland were arming themselves with pistols and shotguns to protect their homes from Indian raids. In 1802, a group of men gathered together to found the first rifle club in America. This club was made up of men who had previously used handguns for protection. The handgun clubs gradually became more interested in rifles and began storing them for use in case of an attack. In 1827, a man named Elijah Holmes founded the first gunsmith shop in America. This store sold firearms, ammunition, and other tools needed to make guns. From this store, Holmes began teaching people how to assemble firearms and also marketed his products to civilians and militaries. Starting in the 1830s, gun manufacturers started production on new types of firearms that were much easier and faster to operate than earlier designs. These new Firearms such as Colt’s Model 1860 carbines (1860) became popular among American militia forces and law enforcement officers during this time period. Gun manufacturers like Colt continued producing these new firearms until 1865 when they stopped production altogether due to government regulations governinggun ownership at this time

Cambridge, Maryland is a city located in the Eastern Shore of Maryland on the Potomac River. The population was 27,790 at the 2010 census. Cambridge is one of the most recent suburbs built in southern Maryland by developers after Prince George's County and Montgomery County seceded from the United States in 1955 and 1971, respectively. The city is adjacent to Hyattsville and Takoma Park, which make up Washington D.C.'s outer metropolitan area. The first people to live here were probably English settlers in 1634 who named it "Hamesgate". In 1776, when General Washington moved his headquarters from Mount Vernon to Cambridge as part of his retreat following the Battle of Princeton, some residents decided to follow him there. By 1800, most of what is now Cambridge had been developed as a small town with about 1,000 people. During World War II much plant production took place within short distance (just over two miles) of where today's universities are located including Ford Motor Company's Hanford Plant and Johns Hopkins University's School of Medicine and Dentistry on both sides of Baltimore Avenue near Bel Air Road (now Calvert Street). Today many factories have been closed down or converted into universities or other businesses such as Honda Motors plants on Owings Mills Road near John F Kennedy Presidential Library in Owings Mills; and Koppers Department store on North Charles Street just north of I-95 exit 5A in downtown Bethesda

Cambridge, Maryland is a town in Prince George's County, Maryland, United States. The population was 7,854 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Prince George's County government. The first people to settle in what is now Cambridge were farmers and their families who came from England in the early 1700s. They built small homes on a peninsula that juts out into the Potomac River. In 1824, Congress created Prince George's County from part of Anne Arundel County, MD and by 1830 had built several sawmills and other mills along Charles Street near present day Washington Boulevard and First Street. In 1834-35, President James K. Polk sent surveysor Wescott (1812-1886) to study land for a road between Georgetown and Baltimore. After surveying much of central Maryland he recommended that parts of Frederick & Carroll Counties be annexed toPrince George's County so he could build a road leading therefrom - this plan was accepted by both the General Assembly and President Andrew Johnson who signed it into law on November 8th 1863 as "Providence Road Act". As Cambridge grew – its population increasing from 1,000 in 1800 to 12,500 by 1840 – various businessmen began seeking to develop its waterfront property for commercial development or use as an agricultural market location for surrounding farmssteads. On May 20th 1850 Samuel Morse donated land east of present day Washington Boulevard between First Street and Charles Streets for what would become Columbia Point Naval Shipyard; this area became known as Morse Landing because its landing beach served as one end of a wharf used by vessels coming upriver from Navy Yard at Annapolis). The town quickly developed into one of the most important shipping points on the Eastern seaboard with heavy reliance on river traffic carrying goods such as lumber, grain, coal etc., which required safe passage through Chesapeake Bay. The site originally included warehouses along Charles Street where large numbers of boats were unloaded before being transported downriver to Navy Yard where they were offloaded again onto larger vessels bound for destinations such as Liverpool or Amsterdam; these operations continued until about 1870 when ownership passed away from the former owners (the last boatload was offloaded here around 1915). A few years later another group approached Congress with plans to establish what would become Georgetown University; however this proposal was not accepted because much higher prices were offered for land then existed for university buildings then available anywhere else in America! A new effort was made two years later when Congressman James K. Polk assigned Assistant Secretary Robert Higginson (1798-1868) with creating a school system within each congressional district which would include schools specifically designed for white children only! This program eventually became known as "The Gilded Age" since many millionaires donated money towards college education while others ran colleges similar to those initially proposed but without any black students! In 1874–75 representatives chaired by Representative John Sherman decided that all public schools should be open enrollment so that parents could choose either their local high school or an academic institution like Johns Hopkins University which opened its doors in 1875! Although initially opposed by some residents due to low tuition rates charged at these newly opened institutions Transylvania College (later renamed Towson University) located just south of downtown earned enoughAmidst reluctance among businesses northumberland county wanted nothing more than annexation so commuter services might improve transportation options drew them thereinstead . By 1907 over 60 percentof undergraduate students attending Towson were black making it one of America’s most integrated universities even though much resistance still exists today against integrating universities into mainstream society primarily due cultural reasons
