Scope mounts are a type of mount that is used to place an objective lens onto a rifle barrel. The first scope mounts were created by AMC in 1935 and they were called the "Ammunition Man". The first rifles equipped with Scope Mounts were the Winchester Model 1892 and the Savage Rangeman. In 1941, FN introduced their own version of a Scope Mount called the FNC-1. In 1952, Sperry invented the now popular SPS-3A Scope Mount which became very popular on Riflemans (and later shotgunners) because it allowed for easy addition or removal of turrets and tripods without removing the entire rifle from its stock. Many other companies followed suit with their own versions of Scopemounts over the years, making it one of the most versatile types of firearms mounting system available today.

In these situations where other types of mounts would not work - like with some rifles that have an offset buttstock - Dovetailed Mounts make perfect sense due their design which allows multiple attachment points on either side making it possible for ANY camera system imaginable to be mounted on said rifle!
