In 1872 when howell resigned from office after being impeached for perjury charges brought against him following his successful run for president on November 3rd of that year against Grover Cleveland – although he had not actually been impeached – he left behind a permanent legacy as one of America's most influential Progressives when he contributed $5 per day towards support for newly organized political parties across much of New England until his death two years later at age 80 years old (the equivalent today would be about $140 per week). Westbrook, Maine is a small town located in southern Maine. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Westbrook is named for General George Washington, who fought in the American Revolution and died in 1799. The first permanent settler in Westbrook was Captain John Purdy of Bristol, Rhode Island. He built his house on the site of what is now Main Street. In 1824, Captain Purdy's grandson, John A. Westbrook, organized a community of farmers and traders known as Bradfordbury near present-day Portland. In 1839, when the United States acquired Maine from Great Britain, it designated Westbrook as its capital city. The first mayor of Westbrook was Wm Higginson during this time period. In 1898, after an earthquake destroyed much of downtown Portland and killed many people including Mayor Wm Higginson and several other leaders of the community, a group of local businessmen formed the Committee to rebuild Portland with money from distant investors to help avoid any more such disasters in future earthquakes. This led to the nickname "The New Portland." When word arrived that France had entered World War I (1914), most citizens chose not to support their country because they felt that international law did not allow them to do so; however some did collect supplies for military service online or through post office pickups which continued until shortly before armistice negotiations began on July 2nd 1916 when all active hostilities ended without achieving any definitive results due largely to German submarine activity off northeastern Canada.. On November 15th 1922 James Ransom became Mayor after being elected unopposed by all members of City Council On October 3rd 1924 he resigned effective November 3rd due to health reasons On December 11th 1930 he was impeached and removed from office by two thirds vote of City Council
