Gun magazines are a long and varied history in Westbrook, Maine. From the early 1800s until the present day, there have been countless gun magazines distributed throughout the small town. Some of these old magazines still exist today, while others have been replaced by more modern formats. The earliest gun magazine in Westbrook was started by John Hickey in 1811. It was located at 12 Main Street and was known as The Rifleman. The first issue of The Rifleman featured an article on how to build a rifle. At that time, rifles were still considered a novel weapon and were only available to those who could afford to buy them. When John Hickey died in 1821, his magazine became the property of his son-in-law, Amos Cleary. Cleary dedicated himself to continuing the publication of The Rifleman and soon began publishing new issues every week. In 1827, he moved the magazine to 10 Main Street where it remained until 1840 when it moved again to 8 Wigwam Avenue due to population growth in Westbrook. In 1847, Thaddeus Stevens founded Stevens Gun Club which served as the nucleus for future gun clubs across Maine. Stevens Gun Club published its first journal called "The Westerner" which lasted from 1847-1850 before moving its operations shop across river from post office on Main Street into what is now First Baptist Church building (now used as apartments). In 1850, Jno Peele established Peele’s Sporting Goods store at 5 WestgateStreet which became one of the most important gun dealerships in northwest Maine during this time period due its wide variety of firearms including pistols and shotguns along with ammunition and other sporting supplies such as fishing rods and lures etc.. After being closed for several years due economic difficulties during the Civil War (Peele reopened his store after Confederate forces burned it down), he sold his business back to Mrinaldo Fitch around 1865/66 but continued operation as Peele’s Sporting Goods until 1971 when it closed once again due to declining sales rates among customers over time.. Middlesex Armory opened their doors on Weeks Road near downtown in 1903 with manufacturing capabilities for handguns only; they did not begin selling rifles or shotgun shells until 1912 when they changed their name to National Arms Company Ltd.; later renamed Remington Arms Corporation;; finally merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Co., Inc., becoming Winchester Chiappa Firearms Corporation effective Nov 1 1999) . At that point all ammo sales within Middlesex Armory were combined with Winchester Ammunition Co., Inc.} also located within Middlesex Armory} which had become part of Remington Industries plc.} prior thereto}

Westbrook is a town in Maine, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. Westbrook is located on the Penobscot River and shares boundaries with Goffstown to the north, Northfield to the east, Auburn to the south and Andover to the west. It is part of Cumberland County. The first permanent settler in what would become Westbrook was Nathan Bailey in 1784. A sawmill and gristmill were built soon after by John Whitehead and others. In 1802, a post office called Westbrook was established; it remained in operation until 1868. In 1821, a school was organized for students from surrounding towns; it operated until 1845. A store opened in 1865; it continued operations until 1902. The townspeople built a large firehall (now known as Bradford Hall) in 1892 which served as their local courthouse until 1907 when that structure burned down. In 1906, Westbrook formed its own police department which still operates today under the name of Town Police Department #2 (). The first female commissioner of police was appointed in 1978 (). In 1984, Westbrook became one of only two towns in Maine (the other being Caribou) to adopt an open-source software management system calledrational Software Management System(RSM). That same year also saw the opening of Westbrook's first library - this one serving primarily as a community center/library with no formal collection or research capability apart from providing access to periodicals and internet resources/. The library closed its doors effective March 2009 following extensive damage done by Hurricane Irene while undergoing renovation work inside its then-new building on Main Street (). In 2007, Westbrook participated fully in Vermonter's quest for $10 million dollars known as "Vermonter's Challenge", successfully raising over $8 million dollars with some donations coming from individuals such as PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel (). This success led to new investment into Vermonter by enthusiastic businessmen including former CEO of AOL Time Warner Jon Brokaw who purchased majority ownership of Vermonter Media Enterprises Inc., making him president & CEO which he held until his death on October 15th 2017 . In 1892, John Moses Browning designed and patented the first magazine-fed gun, the Browning Locket. He also developed the first breech-loading rifle in 1892. The locket was a revolver that held five rounds. It could be reloaded with one round from a magazine. In 1896, Winchester began producing their own magazines for their guns. These magazines were similar to those used by Browning and other manufacturers. However, Winchester's magazines were not filled with rounds like those used by others; they were filled with shot shells! The popularity of Winchester's magazines led to them being copied by other manufacturers.
