Westbrook is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. Westbrook is part of the Bangor-Belfast Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded on September 12, 1824 by Captain John Westbrook and his wife Polly. In 1828, the town was named for General George Washington and it became a part of Penobscot County on January 1, 1830. On November 5, 1859, local residents voted to reincorporate as a village under the name "Westbrook." On January 14,1860, the village had an estimated population of 100 people; however this number decreased to 50 within two years due to lack of development and heavy competition from other towns in the county. The village dissolved on July 1, 1868 when it merged with nearby East Brookfield into what is now Bangor. In 1898–99 (the last time measurements were taken), Westbrook had a population of 203 people consisting mainly of farmers living near the river or fishing for lobster or whitefish during summertime. There were no businesses open during that time so most people relied on agriculture or fishing for their income which supported only 10% of their total household budget without any outside sources of financial assistance such as credit card payments or mortgages possible then either. Just like many other rural communities in America at that time there was no real infrastructure such as schools or hospitals available so there was little way to help those who needed it such as mental health professionals which are stillexistent today in rural areas across America despite advances made over the years in technology and healthcare provision throughout most developed countries A post office opened at Westbrook on December 16th 1840 but closed on May 15th 1861 due to low mail volume until reopened by Westwood Post Office October 25th 1862 After 9 months its operations moved back out to Bangor where they remain today

In 1915, when King George V became king of England, he toured America and visited Westbrook. This event is often credited with helping make Westbrook a popular tourist destination throughout the 1920s and 1930s. In 1973, when Maine legalized gambling, Westbrook quickly became one of the state's top gaming towns. Since then, the town has seen many changes: it has been renamed several times (including “Westbrook Heights” in 2013), but it remains an important community for tourists and locals alike. Today, nearly everyone who lives in or visits Westbrook knows at least one piece of its history – from early pioneers who settled here to those who have made their mark on the community through entrepreneurship or service to others.
Westbrook was incorporated as a town on April 3, 1892. It became a city on November 3, 1903.
