Waterloo was first settled by English colonists in 1768 as part of the era of British settlement in New England. The present-day town was organized in 1867 from parts of Fryeburg and Auburn townships. Waterloo had its start when two men named Westbrook crossed the Penobscot River on 2 July 1768 to found what would become Waterloo. One man, Ebenezer Westbrook, Jr., owned most of the land that now makes up Waterloo; his brother-in-law John Tryon helped him build a log cabin near the river's edge and name it after himself and his wife Rachelle (or Rebekah). Another pioneer in this early village was James Beal who arrived from Rhode Island around 1770 and homesteaded about three miles west of Waterloo on land he purchased from Ebenezer Westbrook Jr.. soon after, other pioneers began arriving: David Dudley came overland from Rhode Island in 1772; Hugh de laFontaine followed shortly thereafter; Isaac Todd arrived about 1800; Jabez Bowen came overland between 1800 and 1801; Peter Frosty arrival preceded American Revolutionary War veteran Jonathan Trumbull by just six months! The first store opened in Waterloo on Bathurst Street in December 1792 by Elijah Morse as a general merchandise store fronting Main Street. In 1830, there were nine stores operating within one mile of town limits - four general stores (one closed), two groceries (both closed), one millinery store (closed), one watchmaker shop (closed) - all within one half mile of where modern day Waterloo sits today! In 1834, Methodist missionaries moved into downtown Wellington and started teaching religious classes to local children while they built a church there which became known as First Presbyterian Church – also known as “Westminster” or “Downtown” because it sat at the intersection then called Third Avenue North and Water Street West before moving to its current location across Main Street east from Market Place in 1865. Reverend Drury served as pastor for many years until his death on October 6th 1888 following a long career with Congregationalism services being offered at Westminster Chapel until that time led by Revd Samuel Eliot Pond! Reverend Drury is buried at Greenwood Cemetery adjacent to current day mainline I-95 Exit 9A south off US 1A near where I-93 meets I-95B serving both rural areas including Weston County with Winchesters coming downstate through Lewiston/Portland via exit 15A after crossing Interstate 95E exiting onto Route 205 which leads southwest out to Moose Factory Road leading north into Hennepin County before terminating northeast near East Molineux Mills
