The history of Westbrook begins with early settlers coming overland from Connecticut in search for land that would be suitable for farming given the rocky terrain around them. By 1810 there were about twenty families living on what became known as “the lots” around Main Street (now First Avenue). In 1815 two men named John Morse and Solomon North came overland from Rhode Island looking for land too good to be true but they found just what they were looking for when they came across two farms on Round Lake Road (present day Stacy Road) which had already been bought by Drury Pike who called them his “founding fathers” because he believed they could turn this knob into a wrought iron post road leading eastward to Bangor (at present day Gorham). They named their farmhouse after General Andrew Jackson who had fought against British forces at New Orleans during the War of 1812 – General Jackson House still stands today on Third Street near Park Avenue (now Main Street). It was through these connections that many people moved into Westbrook throughout its early years; Drake Fenton being one example who immigrated here from Greenfield, Massachusetts in 1827 followed by others such as Captain Ebenezer Whitehead, Captain James Gaultier, Doctor Samuel Headley etc.; all of whom donated land or provided support to help settle these pioneers down. It wasn't until1885 when an act passed by Congress allowed towns within Maine to secede if they felt their interests weren't being represented within the state government; this event helped spawn many businesses located outsideof mainsteam Town Limits such as Lighthouse Bazar & Trading Post along present day Stacy Road near where Interstate 95 meets US Route 2 Alternate (today's State Road 207) where farmers would buy goods needed for their crops before selling them back outside Town Limits
