Grant’s Secretary of War/Warrior Extraordinary On May 10th 1888 three men charged with larceny from store in Waterville agreed to plead guilty rather than go to jail which would have resulted in their being tried before a grand jury which they knew would indict them They were allowed out on $100 each cash bond with no chance at parole so they took off into Canada where they continued larceny until their trial that same year began hearing from August 16th until September 5th when one man failed to appear or agree to enter into any plea bargain He was found not guilty by reason that he had already left Canadia
