Dixon also played a pivotal role in helping lay the groundwork for Maine's economy by developing transportation links between different parts of the state at this time. In 1835 he donated land to establish what would become Cumberland County; this donation helped spur development around SouthPortland as well as leading to increased business opportunities for locals businesses over time! During these years (1830-1840), various cultural events occurred throughout SouthPortland which have left their mark on local culture today: such as creationism becoming popular among farmers during this time; or when Captain Alfred Thayer met Commodore James Ketchum while sailing through town on his way back from a trading expedition off Labrador several years later! Today all that remains of these early days are some old buildings (such as Stagecoach Inn) and some interesting artifacts from those times like cattle branding irons found at Old Fort Moxie!
