After the war many local businesses closed down but new ones began to form such as Applebee's Restaurants Inc., Pleasant Ridge Farms Dairy, Barnes & Noble bookstore chain, Life Insurance Company and South Portland Naval Base which still operates today. Today there are several shopping centers located in downtown SouthPortland including Sears locations (#1-3 Main Street; #5-7 Clinton Avenue), Macy's (#4 - 6 Clinton Avenue) and JCPenney (#2-4 Clinton Avenue). There are also several restaurants located throughout town including landmarks like Champion Steakhouse (#9 Clinton Ave.), Joe's Pizza ($) and Dave's Ice Cream ($3/$6 cones/ validate purchase). Additionally there are a few small businesses that have been around for decades such as Radio Shack ($10 for an 8GB memory stick) and Peoples Service ($7-$11 worth of groceries). In addition to these larger stores there are several smaller businesses that have been around for years but have not had much attention given them such as CVS Pharmacy ($) which has been open since 1914. Finally there are two small libraries which serve primarily rural residents: The Rural Library District Branch at 404 Main Street #211 is open 7 days per week with no Monday closures while the Friendship Rural Library at 313 Main Street serves only urban residents with card access during business hours
