The last school reopened on November 3rd 1870 as Ganado Female Academy which continued operation until 1943 when it merged with Lincoln Male academy to form Bangor Female academy In 1898-99, during a severe drought that struck parts of New England, there were challenges brought about by floods that destroyed most crops but also killed many animals including horses used for transportation across mudflats used for irrigation purposes
