Portland, Maine is a city in the U.S. state of Maine and the county seat of Cumberland County. The population was 497 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Cumberland County by population. It is also home to Portland State University, one of the country's most comprehensive research universities. The first gun cleaning company was established in Portland in 1836 by three Danish immigrants, Ole Hansen, Jørgen Rasmussen and Peder Lunde. They started a business called "Ole Hansen & Søn" to clean firearms used by militia and law enforcement officers. In 1854, an American named John Fenton opened a gun store on Market Street that became known as "Fenton's Armory". In 1865, Fenton partnered with fellow American James Moulton to open "Moulton & Sons Armory". Between 1865 and 1870, there were five different gun stores operating in Portland. In 1870, two Swedes named Gustaf Wahlgren and Johan Wiksell opened an armory next door to Fenton's on Commercial Street known as "Wiksell Bros." In 1875, Wahlgren and Wiksell merged their businesses into what became known as "Wahlgren-Wiksell Armoury", which continued to operate until 1924 when it was closed due to financial difficulties. Heinrich Heine began using Portland for his English printing press near the end of World War I; he printed materials for Germany from this location before moving his presses back home to Germany during World War II. After America entered World War II without declaring war on Japan (thus ending World War II), Oregon became part of Japan through military occupation and therefore any equipment or materialsprints made here were subject to Japanese control after 1945 - some remain extant today thanks to donations from various individuals including Heine himself who donated all his remaining material stocks prior his death in 1957 aged 86 years old

They named their new settlement "Portland" after Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, who had visited England on an official visit in 1809. In 1826, when Congress created Cumberland County, they gave its capital to Bangor—the only town in New England that did not already have a provincial government—under the assumption that Bangor would become a center for trade with Canada and eastern Europe due to its location atthrope along Canada's border. However, this idea was quickly abandoned because noone wanted to move away from their families' homes back east; instead development began around downtown Bangor with brick buildings being erected near Union Station until nearly all business district had moved out by 1870 when river navigation made it practical to maintain one main commercial route across Strait City Bayou

In 1846, after years of wrangling between factions within Boston over control of local government, Portland became an incorporated town under territorial jurisdiction with a mayor and two Aldermen as its primaryOfficials. On July 1st 1846 – just three months before Maine became a state – Mayor John Witherspoon convened a meeting at City Hall to discuss plans for incorporation into what would become Maine’s third largest city only four years later when both Providence and Bangor were also added to our growing communityindexed at 114th outof 120 municipalities statewide then (#1).
