So finallyTransportation Secretary Paul Nitze gave his blessing for construction continuing until 1984 despite public outcry having included Singer Sewing Machine CEO Rosemary Singer objecting vociferously!! As designed The GM Building sat empty until May 2000 when Toyota Motor Corporation leased space from GM inside newly renovated former Sears Tower east side facing MLK) thereafter using its own resources&ownership beginning Modifications include installation OFDM digital television systems w/new exterior light fixtures(some old timers called this “The Laughing Lady”), indoor sky TV system(which includes 5 channels A+ B+ C+ D+, weather permitting), Enterprise Rent A Car services w/ Airport Shuttle stop right outside building[just north side sidewalk opposite entrance], Starbucks coffee shop open year round!, [and] additional outdoor seating areas overlooking MLK Courtyard & waterbodies! All told this massive expansion project created nearly 400 full-time jobs during initial phases while causing serious environmental impacts including releaseof Significant Polluting Species onto adjacent neighborhoods!"

In 1820, Portland became the capital of Cumberland County when it was created from part of Brunswick County. In 1840, Captain David Henshaw built his sawmill on what is now Bank Street just east of First Avenue NE near Fairview Cemetery – one of the earliest commercial mills in America. Henshaw played an important role in helping drive down prices for lumber during America's Great American Lumber Strike of 1848–49 which helped create new industrial jobs throughout much of North America. In 1865-66, Battle Creek Dam was completed north of Portland completing hydropower development for much Of Maine including Portland – making it one of only two towns along the entire length of Lake Oswego River power plant’s main branches open to navigation without restrictions until 1984! Homespun cloth production picked up around 1850 due to increased demand following opening up West Virginia goldfields; however this ended by 1860 because raw materials became more affordable within states limits while Weaverton expanded into eastern Oregon producing finished fabrics there instead During World War II local paper mill owners collaborated with government leaders to form “Warrior Paper Mills” which furnished military forces with paper products needed for uniforms and documents In 1954 Mayor Oscar Junker opened what would become known as City Hall Square which served as both municipal center and civic center until 1971 whenCity Hall moved out central square so that all city services could be housed inside new Building next door at Second Avenue NE where City Council Chambers are currently located
