Lewiston, Maine is a town in central Maine. The population was 9,866 at the 2010 census. It is the largest town in the Cumberland County metropolitan area and the seat of Cumberland County government. The name "Lewiston" comes from a Sauk word meaning "to flow." Lewiston's downtown core is commercial and cultural center with several luxury hotels and restaurants as well as two large arts venues, the University of Maine at Lewiston School of Music and the Bangor Symphony Orchestra Hall. In addition to its downtown core, Lewiston has five neighborhoods: East End, West End, North End, South End, and Downtown. The history of Lewiston goes back to 1795 when Jedediah Morse erected his sawmill on what is now Millstream Avenue near Main Street. The town started to form in 1815 when settlers arrived from New England looking for land to settle. By 1830 most of what is now Lewiston had been founded including present day West End which was then called North Towne Landing because it was on the north shore of Millstream River before it became part of Cumberland County. In 1853, a post office was established in what is today downtown Lewiston with Jno Matson as its first postmaster. Two years later a canal was built through town connecting mills on both sides of Millstream River making possible more efficient transportation for goodsproduced by local farmers into nearby towns like Bangor and Portland. By 1870 all but one block east of Main were developed into residential areas with stores along Main Street edged by farms until after World War II when much development took place westward along UPNL Boulevard which bisected town between East and West Ends until it was shut down in 1972 following an earthquake that destroyed much property eastward within minutes outside downtownLewiston limits

In 1964, Winchester invented their own rear sight turret based off of existing military sights which helped make Scope Mounts even more popular amongst shooters. By 1970, all major firearms manufacturers had produced at least one type or model ofscopemount available commercially (with some going as far as producing multiple models).
