Since then, much progress has been made within both Addison Township and Lewiston itself with both communities working together towards common goals such as improving transportation routes into town from outlying areas while continuing to develop their respective economies based upon their individual neighborhoods respectively. Lewiston, Maine is a town located in Penobscot County, Maine. The population was 9,693 at the 2010 census. Lewiston is one of three communities in Penobscot County that are part of the Bangor–Lewiston Micropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled by English colonists in 1629 as Killamarsh (now known as Easton). In 1784, the British established Fort Kent on Sark Island and began to settle the area around present-day Lewiston. The fort served as a base for military operations during the American Revolution and afterwards saw civilian use until it was destroyed by fire in 1813. In 1819, Lewiston voters passed a ordinance establishing a school district that would serve residents of all three villages within Penobscot County: Killamarsh, Easton, and West Hall. The first school opened in October of that year. The town's name derives from nearby Upper Saco River which locals called "Lemonhead" because early settlers found lemon trees thereabouts. Despite this namesake connection to lemonade production - which may have been one reason why early entrepreneurs chose to locate their business here - lime juice production did not take off until much later. By 1838, however,Lewiston had become an important port for goods exported from Penobscot Bay; its merchants were among those who helped develop the local economy through trade and commerce during this period. Despite these successes over the years, Lewiston suffered multiple blows during the late 19th century — most notably when timber prices plummeted due to disease and war-related disruptions both abroad and at home; moreover, technological advancements made logging more difficult and expensive than ever before; consequently, mills closed throughout much of Maine during this time period."

In recent years there has been some discussion about whether or not Lewiston should be allowed to annex adjacent towns such as Auburn due to their shared history and culture
