On November 26th Byng submitted his claim deed with three others to selectman Jabez Youngblood for their share but only Byng received payment and he returned home empty handed so he started another claims meeting which resulted in naming him Trustee District 3 & 4 after himself Director General For pulling up stakes & moving his family over therefrom Machias On or about January 10th 1800 smallpox broke out among people living east side Tryon’s house near present day Burgess road Injunctions were given against any further settlement being made without proper protection & house burnings took place Assembling 40 men under Capt Elisha Stroud they set out March 11 1800 16 miles due east where they found some high quality coal Mines workings stopped soon after because high water covered them along mineshaft Some men went deeper than expected spotting lead balls coming down days later but no damage done Capt Stroud ordered party back upriver When night fell return trip possible but too risky with high water levels also making travel difficult So most men Returned safe But 2 died From pneumonic plague brought over by journey home sickly....................................................... In order for this community to thrive and flourish like its namesake did before her death (George Biddeford), townspeople decided upon building a schoolhouse/library/fire department/idempotent magistrate – all necessary amenities for growing a busy community! This inspired many others throughout Penobscot Township who followed suit beginning construction on September 12th 1800 withwright Jno Cook leading way!
