Biddeford, Maine is a small town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 569 at the 2010 census. Biddeford is located on the south shore of the Bangor River and is part of the Portland metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Biddeford were French sailors who sailed up the river in 1604-05 seeking passage to Quebec City. A log cabin was built by Pierre Le Moyne on a bluff overlooking the river in 1723 as a summer headquarters for his father, Governor Samuel Seward of New Hampshire. In 1767, when King George II granted land to Joseph Addison for himself and his family near Bangor, he assigned it to Nathaniel Gorham for use as a town site. On July 15, 1798, Biddeford had its organizational meeting under charter from U.S. Congressman Israel Putnam Jr., one ofadditional early Town Fathers in Maine during this period (the incorporation of towns proceeded through letters patent from the government). In 1822 Main Street crossed over into Penobscot County and became U.S. Route 1A; thus began one of history's most significant transportation corridors with an initial length of only about . The turnpike was completed just north of Biddeford in 1825 and quickly became one of regional trade routes connecting eastern Canada with points south including Boston and Jacksonville Florida On December 6th 1890 voters adopted a new constitution which provided that all citizens were “male white males between 21 years old and 50 years old” while still being fully subject to state laws implemented by their respective legislatures On February 2nd 1901 an act was passed providing for an election for school board members commencing on March 3rd followed by other local elections throughout Penobscot County on May 4th following which general term ended June 30th without any gubernatorial nominations or referenda necessary By 1903 there were 10 schools consisting of 3 teachers each with no more than 12 students each On November 25th 1907 fire destroyed many buildings within downtown Biddeford including Webster Grammar School after starting in an attic

Biddeford, Maine is a small town located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Maine. The population was 953 at the 2010 census, down from 1,021 at the 2000 census. Biddeford is one of two towns in Cumberland County and one of four towns in Penobscot County that make up Cumberland County. It lies along Route 100 (the old stage line), about 25 miles northwest of Portland, Maine and 30 miles east-northeast of Bangor, Maine. The first permanent settler in what would become Biddeford was Captain John Prescott who arrived on July 24, 1813 with his family from New York City on horseback. The first house built in what would become Biddeford was a log cabin erected by Prescott on land grants he received from President James Kippenberger in 1809 and again in 1811. In 1830, Aiken & Morrison erected a frame courthouse for $1,000 which served as the center for local government until it burned down in 1835. In addition to its role as a community center for locals and tourists alike during those early years, court proceedings were also held at the Aiken & Morrison courthouse until 1909 when the last session took place at Penobscot Falls before moving to Bangor due to construction projects there at that time. What made Biddeford unique among other communities during its early days were its natural resources: coal and oil being major contributors to its economy throughout much of its history including through periods when both industries were dominant respectively; while most other communities developed either through immigration or because they had strategic location factors such as being close to important transportation hubs like Portland or Boston (both then little more than villages). Coal mining continued even after oil exploration began becoming more widespread throughout North America beginning around 1920 however production ceased entirely by 1970 following numerous strikes by miners over pay issues (eventually settled out). As is typical with any small town growing steadily over time though development slowed somewhat starting around 1960s due primarily to cost overruns associated with highway construction projects etc., today’s residents are largely composed of retirees who have been drawn here since post-World War II growth rates stalled nationally; while some young people have come here recently thru college programs or thru job postings within larger municipalities nearby such asPortland or Bangor
