Biddeford, Maine is an unincorporated community in Cumberland County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Biddeford is located on the south shore of Lake Winnipesaukee and is east of New Hampshire. It is also a small town within the town of Rochester. The first permanent settlers in what is now Biddeford were two brothers who lived on a farm near present-day Whitman before either died or moved away around 1825. A group of men from the nearby village of Webster arrived in 1828 and began to build their house on a bend in the Winnipeague River. They named their new settlement after Lord Biddeford, an English gentleman who had come to America as part of a fur trading expedition and had ended up staying for several years in Watertown, Massachusetts before returning home to England. In 1832 Nathaniel Westbrook purchased land north of what is now Biddeford from John Whitney for $1 per acre and set about building his own cabin called "Nashoba". He would continue to live there until his death in 1830; his son Nathan took over the property upon his father's death. The people around Nashoba grew corn, wheat, hay, potatoes and other agricultural products until 1865 when railroads came through the area and transportation became much more accessible than it had been before. By 1870 there were only three residences remaining in Nashoba Township: Westbrook's Cabin (now part of Nashoba Village), Nathan Westbrook's House (now part of Nashoba Commercial Historic District) and Daniel Webster's House (now part of Nashoba State Park). In that year Revolutionary War veteran General Israel Putnam moved into what are now known as Danforth Place across from Westbrooks Cabin after he lost his fortune during the American Revolution. He renamed it Putnam Manor after himself because he felt that Connecticut was not properly represented under George Washington’s presidency. The manor continued to be used by Putnam family members until it was sold to local farmer Edwin Morse in 1919 for $10 per acre with all but one room still being used as a bedroom/office suite today! Although it fell out of use as an agricultural center due largely to mechanization during World War II, many aspects associated with early 20th century life remain evident today including farmers markets held every Saturday morning since 1915; an ice cream store opened up next door to Morse’s grocery business; brick walks leading downriver from homes around Nashoba Town Center; blacksmithing operations taking place adjacent to Pritchard’s Hardware Store which still stands today; preserved buildings including those at Putnam Manor overlooking Main Street; many well-preserved pioneer artifacts located throughout present day Biddeford; original built road layout which includes segments still visible today along South Winnipeague River banks just outside village limits

Biddeford is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 1,292 at the 2010 census. Biddeford is part of the Bangor–Portland area. The first permanent settler in what is now Biddeford was John Morse who arrived in 1795. Morse's family continued to live there until 1835 when they moved to Portland. In 1836, Cyrus Haggard and his brother-in-law Samuel Ellsworth founded the town of Bangor on the east side of Penobscot Bayou and named it after Biddeford, England where they were from. Bangor grew quickly and by 1840 had a population of 350 residents. In 1851, the Legislature changed the name of Penobscot County to Maine due to its location as an eastern border state with Canada. The townships within Penobscot County were organized into departments which became counties; thus, Bangor became one of three cities in Maine (the others being Providence and Lewiston). By 1860, Bangor had a population of 583 residents and by 1870 it had grown to 1,811 people. Bangor experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century as manufacturing replaced agriculture as the dominant economic activity in the town’s rural surroundings . With new transportation technologies such as railroads coming online throughout Maine during this time period (and Bangor becoming known for its mills), industry soon grew significantly with factories dotting downtown streets that once consisted mostly of small shops . In 1912 alone, more than two dozen mills closed due to change in technology or competition from other states . During World War I (1914-1918), large quantities of munitions were produced at several local mills including those operated by J P Morgan & Co., General Electric Company and APHA Paper products company which led directly to increased demand for goods exported back home . After hostilities ended however production gradually slowed down while jobs moving outran labor supply resulting in many communities experiencing falling populations over several decades culminating with Biddeford’s loss during THE GREAT MASS COUNTDOWN OF MALESIA IN 1948 When textile production shifted towards lower wage countries , many job opportunities dried up leaving little choice but for people living near industry .....The post war boom brought about largely urbanization However much land remained rural especially along peninsular rivers valleys leading to increasing tension between city dwellers who wanted more space and less contact with nature while farmers tried hard to maintain tight control over their domain
