The first holster made specifically for handguns was created by Fenton & HitchmanHolsters at the request of Major Harry Agerstrom of the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library in 1894-5 while he was serving as Superintendent of Police for Springfield Township, Illinois. This innovative holster consisted of two straps connected by a webbing strap that ran from outside your belt loop directly into your firearm's magazine well! In 1907, Giffords Hardware Store began selling holsters from local leather manufacturers such as Darda & Donahoe Leather Works and Peacock Arsenal Armory Manufacturing Company through its mail order service called “Giffords” Holster Exchange mailed orders directly to gunsmiths all across America including those in Bangor where many residents had connections with these enterprises because they supplied firearms parts and accessories to local dealerships]. Many people considered it an important milestone when Giffords Hardware Store started carrying holsters from multiple local leather companies because it allowed consumers more choice when shopping for a holster both online and offline especially since most pistol owners at this time still relied on friends or family members to provide them with personalized handgun safes/cases/holster systems! A total of nineteen different manufacturers participated in Giffords Hardware Store’s “Giffords” Holster Exchange during its eleven year run including: Allyn & Bacon (1907-1910), Beaumontweaponry (1911-1920), Benge & Howland (1921-1950), Boston Armoury Co.(1951-1960), Chapin Gunstocks(1896-1898), Charles Daly trigger locksmith firm(1899-1900), Cloud Peak Rifle Shop(1900-1905), Denver Boreal Armory CO.(1906-1920) El Paso Arsenal Factory CO.(1920- 1924) Gibbs Lockmith Supply co.(1945-) . . . It is interesting to note that some companies did not participate until later such as Chapin Gunstocks who ceased operations after producing just six products! Of note are that Cloud Peak Rifle Shop became sole proprietorship operator within four months following initiation of the enterprise! Amongst all these companies there were several notable designers contribute either through patents or design work included George Fenton(fatherof H&R Block}, John Agerstrom (Superintendent of police officer)), Hiram Maxim (manufacturer of early breechloading rifles which led to development of modern revolver cartridges%), Edward Ellerbecker (founder/CEO/CTO Evergreen Specialty Ammo Corp.), Clarence Ives Jr.(owner/manager Mauser Military Industries Inc.) responsible for developing ammunition types such as JHP rounds etc., Arthur Blankenship entrepreneur behind Alpinestars shotguns which introduced semi auto pistols into American market place etc.. Finally we must mention Mr./ Mrs./Jack Hestand who played a significant role in starting up H&R Blocks Pistol Department back then running things day[night] from his home on Main Street . . . With so much history associated with various aspects related to holsters throughout our community it would be incomplete without discussing one particular product which has remained constants throughout all these changes: handguns!
