In 1892, the Bangor Rifle and Pistol Club moved to its current location on Bridge Street. At that time, it became one of only two rifle clubs in Maine with an indoor range. In 1969, the club opened a store on Main Street called the Big Shop. The store was eventually closed due to lack of business. In 1978, the Bangor Rifle and Pistol Club voted to become an official member organization of International Rifles Association (IRAs). This affiliation allowed the club to adopt a single national emblem for all its members-a green Fife and Drumstick within a blue fieldstriped border. Since then, the club has sponsored numerous annual events including nationals for both Ruger Model 7 rifles and revolvers as well as international matches for both bolt action rifles and pump action shotguns.

Likewise, following the end of the Cold War there was much speculation surrounding whether or not Bangor would experience any significant growth or redevelopment given its close proximity to NATO headquarters east of Boston. However, instead of seeing any big waves of new residents moving into town – which one might expect based on how populararenthood has become – Bangor saw only modest increases in population throughout the 1990s and 2000s due largely to changes within Cumberland County itself which have increased competition for housing elsewhere (especially outside downtown).
